Where has the US and Russia openly met in a combat zone in Ukraine. Otherwise why would it be relevant?
So the answer is nowhere.
I don't want them to meet. You apparently do.

I brought up the notion that smaller countries have outlasted attacks by bigger ones throughout history. You have not given any reason why in this case it's not possible. You brought up Vietnam and Afghanistan. Were you being militarily stupid?
It's not being proposed by anybody that they do. It's a fucking strawman. So the answer is nowhere.

What is more important, they do speak the same language and they are people of more or less same culture. It's more Civil war, rather than invasion in a really alien environment.

Sure. The US economy is so bad they can't sustain a war against a country that has the GDP of the Benelux. While by the way Europe is footing hals the bill.
Not many, I believe.I wonder how many Leftists even know that there are Russian speaking areas in Eastern Ukraine?

Then it wouldn't be in a combat zone. So again, a strawman. Because let me tell you if your definition of risk is Russian and US military in peacekeeping missions together you are too late. https://www.nato.int/docu/presskit/010219/brocheng.pdfZ-Man and Starmer want US troops in a peacekeeper role. To hell with that.

How did very flat Belgium fare in WW1. Also, attritional warfare by the way. Or the Dutch against the Spanish during the eighty-year war. Holland is pretty flat. If flat geography makes a country easy Ukraine would have been taken already. It took the Germans about 2 months to do during Barbarossa. Russia hasn't succeeded in 3 years. So again, why is that NOT relevant.Yes, you've brought up areas where the terrain helped the defenders. That is not the case in Ukraine.
You've pointed out the exceptions to the rule. How did relatively flat Poland fare against the Russians and the Germans?
Of course it will be a combat zone. First of all, because local Ukrainian Banderovci will attack US troops exactly to escalate war. Then it wouldn't be in a combat zone.
Who says Russia will last that long? Russia has emptied our her prisons and the North Koreans are thinking twice about sending more cannon fodder. And that gets you the gradual loss of more Ukrainian territory over the next 3-4 years.
If Ukraine lasts that long.

Belgium remained in control of a small part throughout. Where do you think Ypres is? or Passchendaele?"Belgium's small Army could not defeat the invaders, but they did manage to slow them down. Despite their resistance and the British Army's help, the German troops soon invaded the country, which remained in their hands for four years until the Armistice on Nov. 11, 1918."

Belgium, U.S. involvement in World War I
This year marks the centennial of the World War I's end. On this anniversary, it is important to understand the involvement of Belgium in the Great War as well as the consequences that the conflict had on its population.www.army.mil
Betrayal and disgraceIts already happened
You need to face reality
Are you willing to see the war drag on for 30 years like afghanistan?Betrayal and disgrace
Great Plan.Sorry, I'm confused. Why does "the left" need to provide a solution to end the war? Donald Trump is President. Republicans control Congress. We know what Trump's "strategy" is...appeasement. We know from history appeasement doesn't work. You don't reward a dictator for starting a war, you put pressure on him to withdraw from a sovereign country, return all land and people taken, and pony up cash to help rebuild a country he trashed. Otherwise, if you're (Trump) going to just roll over and play dead, sit down, close your cuck mouth and let the grownups figure it out.
