God

/gäd/

noun
a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity.

What is God? What should be considered a God?

Heck, following the above definition, Satan is a God. Actually, why shouldn't Satan be considered a God by Christianity?

The manner is which you should have written the question is...What is a god?
God is a different altogether and the word is badly misused.

He is referred to the god of this world even though he is a cherub (a created being or angel).

2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Chuckt, I respect your open-mindedness. Shame not many other Christians see it that way.

Everything was created by God, our Creator, even good and evil, which is satan.

Satan is NOT a created "being". It is the symbolic name of God's delusion ( the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ). The Old Covenant "veil" and the beast are also God's delusion.

Paul wrote that? I'm impressed. Although, I honestly think that verse applies better to today's world then at that time.

God is Truth and Truth is God--whatever that Truth turns out to be; and it may be embodied by a divine spirit or not. Truth, in any case, has (at least?) four aspects: knowledge, justice, love and beauty....objective Truth to subjective Truth.

According to the fairy tale Satan is a human being, a walking talking deceitful low life who passes himself as a pusillanimous angel of light but teaches people to defy the commands of God.

One must remember that when these stories were written people believed that it was possible for a human being to be a god.

So it follows that anyone who worships a human being as if he was a god is worshipping satan, a human being, the god of this world..

God is the Creator of all things seen and unseen. ( John 1: 1 ) Why shouldn't Satan be considered a god? He is. By Satanists. Still he is not God. He is a created being created BY THE ONE TRUE G-D! A fallen angel soon to be cast into the Lake of Fire. (when that time comes ) Satan cannot create anything but death and destruction and even then only by G-ds permission first..... God on the other hand is the One and Only true God, Our Creator, and He alone is worthy of our praise. Understand now? - Jeri

Satan is a created being. The Word of God says so. ( Jesus is the Word )

As apposed to the opposite, which is untruth, ignorance, hate, injustice and destruction. Positive and negative are NOT interchangeable.

But trying to define God is like putting God in a box....or bible, it can't be done.

^^^The word of God, according to Jeremiah.....the authority. PFT!

That's right. The Word of God is the authority. The Only Authority. If you don't like what He said take it up with Him. It's His Word. Not mine. I'm just an unprofitable servant.

Well, he's worshiping an idol, which we can witness idolators doing every week on TV. What's the number one qualification to be a god/idol in today's world. Celebrity. As we've seen, the dumbest most evil people in the world can be celebrities, but so can genius "saints". If we could only learn to be a little more discriminating, about our idols and our G/god(s).

BTW, the Devil (by which I mean the inner voice of temptation to do evil to others) only tells us one lie: "Your vanity is justified".

The way I see it the only way to be more discriminating about idols and gods would to first be more discriminating about assumptions that float around in the mind and to be more discerning about what is possible or impossible, true or false and right or wrong..

even that temptation to do evil is colored by what any given person perceives to be good or evil which is not intrinsic but learned and not necessarily the truth.

By accident of birth everyone is taught to think one way or the other about everything under the sun and made to imitate behavior whether irrational or not because they are under the control of parents, teachers, preachers, etc.

At some point everyone becomes enough of an adult to be held responsible for what they do based on how they were taught to think, for good or evil. For that reason it should be of paramount importance to anyone with even the least spark of intelligent thought remaining to sort through their own minds and separate what true from what is false, and keep what is good and discard what is evil. Then they must stand guard over the purity of their own minds by discerning what teaching of one creature or another is clean or unclean to receive which is the essence of kosher law.

If they do their mind will become purified and refined and they will know the truth about all things and perceive God and they will never die the death that results from idol worship or eating the flesh of unclean creatures that do not ruminate..
