if one reads the Bible....we go to our graves and lay there until jesus returns..no heaven no hell just waiting for the day of judgement when Jesus returns..

fyi I am not a Christian but was raised a southern baptist

I don't believe it's a one-time end-all event. I believe it describes the life cycle of human empires with a lot of romanticism. Anyone anywhere can relate to all the little cues so it always seems to be "real". And in a sense it's VERY real. All empires eventually go through raptures where the wise begin to see the writing on the wall and change their ways. Others who are hedonists and who have been corrupted by modernity and spoiled by technology begin to die off.

All a good writer has to do is throw some supernatural talk in there and people really start to tremble. Because it's all happened before it's not hard to project into the future as a "prophecy" coming true. Wise people know this.

the rapture is not mentioned in the bible...end of debate

the idea comes about in the late 1800's
If You Can't Make It to the Top as a Jew, Try It as a Christian

It's in St. Paul, 1 Thessalonians. To keep the collection plate ringing, he gave the suckers something to look forward to.

The pre-trib rapture is a fairly recent idea and is not biblical.

But the idea of a rapture (even if that specific word is not mentioned) IS in the bible.

It happens on the last day... immediately after the tribulation.

And you are right about this. The reward of the saved is EARTH, not heaven

15th post
I am still waiting fer Jesus to alit on the Earth after riding a Ford Mustang in the clouds.

I don't think they use the word, "rapture" in the bible but I do believe that when the Lord comes in the clouds during his second coming that the righteous will be caught up into the clouds to meet him.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

I believe the reason that the righteous will be caught up in the clouds to meet Jesus at his coming is so that they are not burned. The righteous will be saved by lifting them up and then Christ will cleanse the earth with fire. The wicked will then become stubble under the feet of the righteous when Christ comes.

Malachi 4:1-3
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

Just as we are required to be baptized by water and by fire

Doctrine and Covenants 33:11
Yea, repent and be baptized, every one of you, for a remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost.

so too must the earth be baptized by water and fire. In the days of Noah the earth was cleansed by water but at the second coming of Christ it will then be cleansed by fire.

The second coming of our Lord is known as THE GREAT and DREADFUL DAY OF THE LORD. It will be a GREAT day for the righteous but a very DREADFUL day for the wicked.
