Where (in what passages) does Jesus "demand" obedience--or demand anything else? Where (in what passages) does Jesus threaten us with hell (or threaten us with anything)?
Is, "Don't jump off the roof, you will break your bones" a threat? Is "No Swimming, Riptides" a demand?
In reading the Gospels, we see Jesus conversing and telling stories. He uses the analogy of treasures and blessings people find in their obedience to God and His Commandments. He then speaks of what it is like when one ignores God and His Commandments: The analogy now is that instead of finding treasure, it's like finding oneself in the city dump (Gehenna) where one will find worms which do not die.
