"We've lost 13 American soldiers in a war that the American people and, by the way, most of the global community, has no idea why the hell we went there in the first place," Shapiro said.

"I think people have an idea," Maher countered.

"What was the reason we went in?" Shapiro asked.

"Everything you said – the nukes, regime change, and just to reshuffle the deck in the Middle East. Nothing ever really was going to get better until that regime went away," Maher replied, prompting chuckles from the audience.

Maher then added, "But we'll see what happens."

My opinion is that the war was started for all of those reasons, particularly that Iran has been the turd in the punchbowl of the region for more than forty years, and enough was enough.

We will indeed see what happens, but the only way for the war to be unsuccessful is for an even worse, or at least equally bad, regime to take over and go right back to the same thing, with no pause in their nuclear arms programs.

As to the exact timing, I believe that was driven by the intelligence that could place so many of Iran's leadership in one vulnerable place at one time. The provocation has been there for decades. Now we finally had the opportunity and Trump went for it.

Absolutely spot on.
I agree with it all.
I admire Maher: he's a liberal but not a leftist. He's one of the few Democrats who has tried to bring a breath of sanity to that party, so far without luck.

By the way, he had one of the best lines I've ever heard in his comedy act from years ago.
"My father is Catholic and my mother is Jewish. So I go to Confession ... but I take a lawyer." :laughing0301:

I asked myself who watches Bill Maher when all he does is shit on his own audience; then I looked it up and his ratings are steadily vanishing.

The Persian people should have been freed decades ago. Some have insisted that Churchill asked the CIA to over throw the former, elected government in 1953 which started this mess but I am not well versed in Iranian history.

I do not know the best path forward, I would HOPE the U.S was planning and prepared, I am not privy to the intel obviously but it is clear that Americans are tired of war, especially in the M.E. Whether citizens of Canada or Iran, citizens must be free and Iran must not obtain a nuke. America must call out violators and stand up for justice, it has been your greatest asset for 250 years.

China and Russia are going to work overtime to prevent Americas success there as will the guard there.

Who watches any of the liberal late night shows?

I was working as an engineer on the night shift at a CBS affiliate during the Craig Kilborn and the Craig Ferguson era. I literally watched late night television for a living. Those shows were funny, as was the Letterman show. I got a daytime job as a teacher, when Ferguson was still on and haven't watched Late Night or the Late Late Show since.

Do people really tune in for a show like Stephen Colbert that is Trump bashing from start to finish, except for that time he put his thumb on the scale in the Texas Democratic Party Senatorial "primary?"

They must or else Trump wouldn't so obsessively target them through lawfare and his rantings across old and new media

The last late night talk show host that was worth watching was Jay Leno, IMHO.

See that's what I mean.

That wasn't at all funny, but if it were on the Colbert Show, the laugh sign would light up, and the audience would force themselves to laugh.

I guess that's the difference between a Trump supporter and a Trump Obsessed person. I agree with many of Trump's policies and actions, but I'm not going to tune for an hour every late night to watch his rantings. Nor would I tune in to watch an hour of a so-called comedian bashing whoever is the leading Democrat right now.* A few jokes? Sure. A few jokes will write themselves. A whole monologue? No. A whole show? Definitely not.

Fewer and fewer are tuning in to watch late night television, which I suppose is Trump's fault also?

*Just who is that, anyway?

Why did you think I was trying to be funny?

Old media's been dying for a while which is why I don't care about Trump and his henchmen oligarchs like Larry Ellison doing a hostile takeover of it. Trump's not the cause of the decline but it will probably accelerate as state media replaces entertainment. Old people who watch Fox News will be the only audience left for old conservative media to fight over so nobody will be getting decent ratings.

I'm pretty sure that was the impetus to strike when they did. I'm also pretty sure Trump had already greenlit the operation.

The main driver in this was the fact that they had enough 60% enriched to upgrade to 11 bombs. They were building the hardware to enrich 3 or 4 inside a week, and the rest could follow in a couple of weeks.

The nuclear threat was very real and needed to be acted upon.

I can't tell when Colbert is trying to be funny, either, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt about those outlandish statements.

Young males are sharply trending more conservative and were a big part of Trump's base in the 2024 elections.

Traditional Democrats, who cared about the working class are aging out and being shouted down by the younger, more Islamo-centric and Immigrant-centric, LGBT-W allies who appeal to a limited demographic.

The time is ripe for a third party to replace the Democrats.

As one of our leading politicians said today ,
"Trump is appalling and out of control"

And of course he obviously is , and has become an embarrassment to intelligent people .
What is the Deep- State playing at with this gauche Jewish old con- man?

His show and audience are totally different from the usual late night losers. But his integrity shines whereas the others wilt in shame.

Kilborn and Ferguson and Letterman were all fantastic and all funny.
When I see clips of Jimmy Kimmel crying (literally crying) about how mean Donald Trump is or Stephen Colbert doing a dance (literally dancing) as a syringe, pushing the COVID vaccine, and ranting constantly about Trump, not only do I not laugh, I want want to punch them in the mouth (literally).

I was watching nightly when CBS auditioned replacements for Kilborn by letting them take turns guest-hosting. They had some funny people, but Ferguson was easily at the top of the heap.

I got a soft spot for Ferfuson becuase he was born on exactly the same day I was and because he admitted to having been "a blackout drunk" for much of his young adult life and has gotten past it.

I stopped watching much TV after leaving the industry. We had already stopped watching at home. Our old CRT TV fnally crapped out and we felt no desire to replace it.

I cannot imagine people tuning in to watch Kimmel or Colbert on purpose with such lame one-note acts.

Agree on all counts.
I loved Ferguson. Didn't watch him often due to how late his show was but taped a few of them. I loved his personal story too. Something about him was just refreshingly human. And so natural.
Kimmel and Colbert are both an embarrassment to what late night TV used to be and should always be. Punks.
