Wow. Co-conspirator with John Brown in treason. Instead of being charged and hung as a traitor, he later became a Congressman. Just like with Sterns, the traitors were in power, thus traitors go free and then obtain notable positions.

Don't let his signing papers to let Jefferson Davis go free mean anything. It was a political move to help Chase and the Government out and get Davis out of their hair.

John Browns body is swinging on the gallows. Can almost hear the creaking of timbers as he swings back and forth. But Geritt Smith, co-conspirator goes free. Because the traitors are now in power.

There were no waste tanks, sewage just got discharged into the sea. And slave ships didn't sail to Africa; they sailed what was called the "triangle trade". The ships sailed from the USA carrying raw materials to Europe where they traded them for manufactured goods like cheap muskets, iron knives and glass beads. The ships then sailed to the Bight of Benin where they traded the manufactured goods for slaves. Then most of the slave ships sailed to either South America or the Caribbean and a very small minority sailed to North America.

Oh, and the slave trade by American bottoms was banned in 1794 just eighteen years after the formation of the USA and the importation of slaves into the USA was banned in 1808.

Gas prices aren't lower. The borders are not closed. You can't fight crime with a convicted felon as president. We haven't had better trade deals. NATO countries have always paid, not all of them have been able to afford the 2 percent, and it doesn't look like we got rid of Iran's nuclear program. The left had done none of what you said. They are lower in Arizona. Every time I gas up in the last year, the price has shrunk. Gas is fifteen cents a gallon less than this time last year. There are so few illegals crossing the border that the Border Patrol is releasing agents for interior enforcement.

Not formally = doesn't mean shit. Lincoln sent Seward to make it clear to the Europeans that if they did recognize the traitors that when business was wrapped up, they would be next in line for an ass whupping.

The UK and France were not intimidated by the Union. Seward was able to keep both France and the UK from officially recognizing the Confederacy by some adroit diplomacy. However the ruling class of the UK and France were quite supportive of the Confederacy and did everything short of war to support it. They influenced the government to ignore the building of warships for the confederacy like the Alabama despite mountains of evidence provided by the American ambassador that the Confederacy was the owner of the ships.

If not for that act, the war never would have happend

It was a combination of slavery and the loss of the control of the Federal Government that the slave states had exercised since 1776. The slave states could see the handwriting on the wall that no new territories or states would allow slaves, and the USA wasn't going to invade Mexico or the Caribbean to acquire new slave territory.

Wrong, Lincoln wasn't for war, he was for maintaining the Union at all costs. He was even willing to allow the Constitution to be amended to allow eternal slavery if the slaves states would remain in the Union.
