Few events in modern Middle Eastern history have left as deep a scar as the coup of August 1953 that toppled Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh. In one decisive episode, a democratically elected leader was removed in a covert Anglo-American operation, foreign powers reasserted control over Iranian oil, and the Shah’s autocracy was restored. For many Iranians, the coup became the symbol of Western betrayal, setting the stage for decades of anti-imperialism and fueling the anger that erupted in the 1979 revolution.
This article examines the coup’s origins, course, and legacy — situating it in the context of Iranian nationalism, Anglo-American oil interests, Cold War strategy, and the long-term resentment it bred.

I'm sure people like you would tolerate a foreign government removing our president and installing a president they wanted in power.
Hey not everything we did during the Cold war was correct or right but you need to consider the mindset of people back then... we were certain a Russian nuclear atatck was immenent and our government was taking drastic measures.
As far as the Iranian people today who live under the boot heel of the IRGC, they could care less what happened in 1953, I'm sure they are more concerned about the people who want to censor them, control them and kill them if necessary right now today.
I think we can all stop making excuses for radical Islamic Mullas. Once Iran had it's revolution they had a choice to go forward and they made a decision not to put peace and trade and the betterment of thier own people as a priority.
They have a very educated civilian population still and a modenized industrial base but none of that was set up or created by the Islamic Revolutionary regeime., it existed from before the revolution.. those people only exist to use the Iranian people to their own ends.
The majority of Iranian people have no problem with the U.S. they would love to have many of our freedoms
and they are smart enough to realize governements and situations have changed since 1953
