I was just reading parts of the FCC broadcasting licenses the other day and it clearly states they can't report news which they know is not truthful and basically can't report with an obvious bias (can't remember the exact wording).

So why aren't licenses getting yanked?
I just had a brainfart about the loophole.
So, the AP is not under FCC jurisdiction, but that (and Reuters) is the source of all the "news" (propaganda)
All the networks have to do is not check it, parrot it, and voila! The propaganda is out there and no fines or license-yanking.
Plausible deniability for them. The networks can say "Oh! We didn't know".
As far as the bias thing, now that could be pushed. I saw some terrible biased NBC stuff just yesterday.

You may have hit the nail on the head. I can't remember the wording of the biased thing but it was something open to interpretation. While the MSM broadcasting networks have always been a shill for the Democrat party, over more recent times, as the country gets more and more divided, they have had more and more bias in their reporting, particularly under Trump.

While it would be impossible to force them all to report 50/50, if they get totally out of whack, then their licenses could be in jeopardy if it were pursued. In the past, this has just been overlooked but, since it's becoming much more prevelant, we may see some court cases over it. There is a balance there with the networks having reasonable first amendment rights to criticize public officials and the government, they also have a responsibility to provide programming to more than just half the population. It probably wouldn't be an easy win to pursue in order to remove licenses but the fear that they could lose their licenses could force them into more objectivity.
