We have six days until snap/food stamp cards might run out of money…predictions

I’m sure there’ll be some unrest and incidents. Being a Kroger/Albertsons/Publix employee might just become a bit stressful. For the majority productive and useful though it will pass unnoticed.
After all is said and done, they are all that matters. It is their work that provides the manna for the indolent baby factories anyway.

I like the pyramid graph better. You have a broad base of entry level workers, then a broad middle class, topped off by the few very rich at the top. The whole thing moves like an escalator. Capital flows downward to the lower and middle class who produce the profits much of which return to the upper class. Rinse and repeat. The big difference is that the pyramid is dynamic, always in motion while most graphs are a snapshot in time.
In theory that is how it is supposed to work, but what you missed is that inflation keeps the mid/lower incomes from gaining or even keeping up with the wealthy. The top 10% or so have investments that always gain on inflation, while those in the lower 50% live "hand to mouth" barely staying solvent. I'm fine helping out the lower 50% with ACA subsidies paid for with spending cuts like the DOGE savings. The top tax rate should be 40%, and the capital gains tax break should be eliminated to start paying down the $38T debt.

zero for Americans, republicans control congress, in case you havent noticed.
Exactly. I'm waiting for the democrat commercials throwing granny over the cliff <again>

41,000,000 use the ACA, that's a lot of votes Republicans are throwing over the cliff if they kill the ACA subsidies

I don't know, you are sure to the left of this issue and to be honest I've noticed a left lean to several of your posts of late.
Yes, he’s changed. And he’s modeling the leftist tactic in debates as well: if you don’t agree with his leftist opinion, he shrieks out insults and, if he knows you’re Jewish, draws a ridiculous comparison to Israel.

They’re not killing the ACA subsidies. They’re reverting to what Obama said would be a great plan.

Here’s a thought: if food stamps are delayed by a week, how about requiring the Baby Daddies to spend $50 on their kid?

except for the 'affordable' part........ ~S~
Yes, Obama told us his plan would make insurance affordable for everyone, and that was with a 400% cap on subsidies. So let’s go back to what he forced into law.

Pass the ******* CR already!!!

Fun and games time is over. People are going to start feeling real effects.

Nope, shut it down.

I don't mean SNAP, I mean the federal government.

No one works.

No one gets paid.

No one gets back pay.

Social Security checks, military retiree checks, financial services, air traffic, rail traffic, ports, law enforcement, military stay in the barracks and are given a weeks worth of MREs, federal prisoners are locked in their cells with a weeks worth of MREs, etc.

"People are going to start feeling real effects" - people should have started feeling real effects on October 1st.

The only problem with that is the Left would LOVE to shut down law enforcement.

Quite simple - The Republicans will put this in a CR - and the Democrats will be forced to sign it.
They may not care about the military or their own employees - but they do care about people who get free shit.

That’s the problem. Some people think in bits and pieces.

If the government were to truly shut down, there would be no shut downs.

It’s the piece meal approach that is the problem. Keep the government functioning during a “shut down” to not have pain.

If The government were to really shut down, thee duration would be measured in minutes or hours, not days and weeks.

I’d go along with everything you suggest except national defense. Our enemies would be given an open invitation to launch a major attack. Too big a price to pay.

Is the government were to truly shut down there would be no interruption of nation defense as there would be no shutdowns.

The politicians would not let funding expire.

That’s the point of making a real shut down HURT.

I don’t know. The Democrats have a history of not giving in until they get their way.

Options:

Dems cave and open the .gov before then?

Dems pass a stand alone bill for SNAP?

States cover the shortfall with their rainy day funds?

Blue cities burn?

IMHO

There has never existed a time in contemporary Western society when the population of "helpless" fat people was larger than it is today....The last I read it's around 47 million in the US on SNAP/EBT.

Because of all the "help" our society has given people, we now have tens of millions of fat people who can't live without that "help".

And we've now reached the point where we don't know what the heck else to do with them. 😐
Welfare bums on food stamps would be wise to use any remaining funds to buy staple foods like beans and rice

Otherwise going hungry is their own fault

True, but Republicans control DC, and democrats are pushing for an extension for 41m ACA customers, Republicans will lose votes if ACA becomes unaffordable. See post-103 and granny going over the cliff again..by Republicans.
I prefer if Trump takes credit for saving the ACA, renames it TRUMPCARE, and pays for the $35b cost of extending subsidies by cashing in the $200b DOGE savings. Trump should keep those voters in 2026 and 2028.

I like that idea.

They knew that there was a risk of a shutdown. They should have stopped buying soda, Cheetos, candy, expensive processed food, etc., MONTHS ago and bought extra ground beef (good in the freezer for six months), pasta, pasta sauce, and bags of frozen fruit and veggies.

Do these people just take for granted that OTHER people will keep on paying for their food no matter what?!
