Wasn’t Raising the Min Wage....

Multiple Municipalities and states have raised their minimum wages. Why aren’t they faltering because of it...like you guys said they would?

I have no objection to cities or counties raising their minimum wage.

If they think that won't hurt their businesses, go for it!

We in Florida and my friends in Texas are enjoying the inflow of well off citizens and companies from California and New York.

Supposed to cause massive unemployment?

Looks like conservatives were wrong about that too

It was supposed to address the cost of living. Looks like democrats were wrong about that.......well technically it probably is much cheaper to live on the streets than in a house, but.......

End of the day people need to understand we're no longer the only game in town. We can't afford the minimum wage we once did. How do you expect to compete with China and Mexico with our high entitlements and taxes? PROGS don't think on the back end.

Then there's technology. A rise in employer costs entertains technology. Employers need it to compete.

Then there's the obvious many a PROG seem ignorant of. Assuming an employee hasn't been replaced by technology or outsourced, then of course taxes, product, services & real estate increase, it's common sense. Employers are also inclined to cut benefits, which they do. The purpose is defeated and the economy is corrupted by inflation & replacement, what good is that?

Interesting to note U.S. business and employees had little competition in 1974. The cost of living today is about 10x that in 1974, and that's not considering all our "stuff" today, such as smart phones, internet, one thousand TV channels, etc. Anyway, the minimum wage in 1974 was $2.

If minimum wage kept with inflation we'd be @ $20 an hour. Sorry man, NEVER going to happen. We're a long ways away from 1974. FAR more people competing for jobs.

All contributes to a lower standard of living.

I must have missed it, when and by how much was the Federal Minimum Wage increased?

It wasn’t. States raised their MW in some cases...and we were told that there would be all these job losses as a result.

Large Minimum Wage Hike Strikes Again, Killing Restaurant Jobs in CA and WA

New York has lost 4000 jobs due to the minimum wage increase to 15 per hour. The best part of this?

Does AOC know $15 minimum wage in states like Mississippi will put people out of work?

The study found that more than half of Seattle child care businesses were affected by increased labor costs as the policy increased to $13 per hour, and that the majority will be impacted as the policy increases to $15 per hour between 2019 and 2021.

The most common strategic response reported by the businesses has been to raise prices or fees of child tuition and to reduce hours of or number of staff.

Two new studies published about the Seattle minimum wage ordinance

Since candy is dumb, this means prices have gone up and consumers must pay more. If the economy declines even a little the market in Seattle will be impacted more due to the higher Beta.

All in all the highest minimum wage in the nation turned out to be a mixed bag. While some employees hours dropped at the same time new businesses flourished. According to this article the tippling point was at about $11 to $13 bucks an hour.

Seattle’s minimum wage was the highest in the nation. Here’s what happened.
Yep and moving it to $15 will be disastrous for many small businesses. Automation will become the less consult alternative and for those who cannot automate, they will just close up shop. Min wage jobs were never designed for people to support families they were always designed for part timers, students and retirees to supplement their income or get some spending money. Leftists do not comprehend basic economics. Liberals and Conservatives do. Alt Right are just as dumb as Leftists

Automation is already going to happen and that took off long before Seattle even had a glimmer of raising their minimum wage.

And yes the minimum wage was always intended to be a living wage.

The buying power of today's federal minimum wage has decreased as it's not kept up with inflation.

Ask the unemployed vs believing what CNN tells you. How many people got cut back? Lost jobs? Robots taking their jobs? Too many IMO.
So, are you arguing that the unemployment numbers aren't accurate?

As of now it looks like Seattle's unemployment rate is 3.3% while the U.S. as a whole is 3.6%.

NEVER and automation only happens if it is a cheaper alternative. The term “living wage” is a made up Leftist term.
