I bought a CVA Scout single-shot in .44 Magnum a few days back ($250) and got around to messing with it today.
It was really off-balance what with the hollow poly stock. I figured it needed about 1# in the stock to balance it out.
Then I remembered, I had three little 1# cotton bags of buckshot so I pulled the butt pad and slid the bag in till it balanced where I wanted it.
Then I pulled the bag out and stuffed closed cell foam (what the bag in laying on) fore and aft of the balance point, and put the butt pad back on.....Perfectly balanced now and nothing moves in the stock!
The funny thing is those bags were not storage bags for buckshot.....They were to put into helicopter blades to balance them out.
