Biased moderation seems to be a problem on many forums.

Not really an OPPORTUNITY for a USMB to be biased.. 90% of what we do is read posts for "specific topical content"... If it's THERE --- it's legal and we just chuckle at the flaming.. If the post does NOT have "specific topical content" -- it;s illegal in Zones 1 and 2... It's that fucking simple..

Only CONTENT restrictions at USMB are spelled out in the "Site Wide Rules" section of the Posting Guidelines on the Home page. And those are MORE than reasonable..

Most of mod staff have BEEN at boards haunted by mods with TOO MUCH discretion.. We have very LITTLE discretion, but there ARE CASES where it's a judgement call.. I came here BECAUSE of the way the rules were written...

Are we targeting anyone in specific ??? Most stay on topic, and once a thread is exhausted, of course it begins to stray, but the answer to that should be to just close the thread, at that point no one cares really. Problem solved... You are welcome.. lol

Almost anything. Stay away from inferring a posters is a pedo, stay away from bestiality, and stay away from attacking a poster's family.

Actually I did report a mod 3 or 4 times and NOTHING happened usually because the mod in question is looking at the report. I got banned by the same mod twice for responding to THEIR post.

Then find 2 or 3 mods and open a PM... A LOT of time, folks THINK they know which mod "banned them"... Truth is that over 1/2 of our bans are AUTOMATICALLY doled out by the s/ware on the basis of TOO MANY warnings in TOO LITTLE time.. And generally, that person has other warnings in their inbox from OTHER mods when the final one TRIPS the limit...

I don't know how you expect to cut down on the ANGER around here when that stays the same. Everyone knows enough to put in a word or two about the topic before a great long personal slam.

Not ... everybody.. Or we would have this volume of deletions,... You'd be surprised how many people just read the title and drop into threads just to mix it up personally with the OP or another member because they "dont like the thread"....

Can't work on the anger.. EVERYONE is angrier lately.. Including me.. Built on FRUSTRATION with the media and what and HOW they cover.. How can we improve the "tone and noise" on USMB when the ISSUES get framed by rabid partisan media warriors with only a single goal of winning power???

Have you pondered what fraction of USMB bandwidth was WASTED in the past 4 or 5 years RANTING and warring about stories that were incomplete, inaccurate, or DOWNRIGHT PHONY??? How can the anger NOT increase under those conditions???

One of my things is to look for those zombie threads that are worn out and close them...
SOMETIMES there's a great convo going on for the 20 pages that has NOTHING TO DO with the original topic.. THOSE can go to Badlands, where there IS NO "topic control"..

Because our ONLY REAL tool is "topic control"... If the members all understood that -- they'd realize we don't target ideas or members.. Just want everyone to remember how to DISCUSS and DEBATE a topic...

While we're here... Here's another IMPORTANT REQUEST... Don't whine about your threads getting tossed into Badlands or Rubber Room 10 minutes into their life --- IF ---- you cannot control yourself and write a RELATIVELY clean title and Opening Post..

We expect MORE out of the OP.. Including framing a discussion that isn't flaming bait, and holding your fire until somewhere around pg2... What APPEARS on the 1st page -- PREDICTS where the thread is headed... Dont blame us for YOU starting a bar fight instead of a discussion...

Also a major sin is having the OP NOT honoring and supporting their own freaking topic.. Trolling your thread is an admission that you dont care enough about the topic you just posted...

Not happy about it either. But since we've kept EVERYTHING since DAY 1 -- the archiving/indexing was getting ridiculous.. LONGER to make changes and update. Longer/heavier loads for maintenance.

The "attachment" thing seems to work better with more file types.. And it's pretty quick.. Probably quicker than the old process of uploading/storing the stuff in the galleries..

"Search" is also acting more useful in this update.. It really was spotty/sucky before...

Well, I had galleries going back years, and never expected them to be deleted without warning. That was a bad move by the HEGEMONY.

Yeah... I hope those rules are more heavily used. A poster shouldn't have to threaten legal action when another poster keeps calling them a pedo and the staff may delete the posts now and again but the poster doesn't get banned for it. Those are pretty serious rules... they should have heavy punishments.
