When Clinton was potus, the gop detested him personally. He avoided Vietnam service and protested. He was the first of the non-WWII (or at least with Carter non-military service) presidents. He was an anathema to the older, mainly white and rural, gop. Imo we began trending away from civility then. Even in the civil rights era, the mainly christian black leaders were remarkably civil. Trump's attacks on Obama were racially motivated, and imo the most vicious misuse of the press since the 19th century. But even though Congress was not entirely disrespectful to W, thanks largely to Pelosi, the protests got personal ... but W did lie us into a war that cost tens of thousands of casualties. Christmas was turned into a celebration of capitalism long before there were significant numbers of Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims in most cities. The Xtians sold out Xmas for more and more shiny stuff.

And no one is stopping you from celebrating any holiday. If someone celebrating another holiday, or a greeting that allows for all the holidays, bothers you then you need to look to your own pettiness and not other religions.
