Doctors recommend reducing sodium from the average of 3300mg per day to 1500 mg per day. However, this is still three times as much as is needed, which is cited as 500 mg. Interestingly the Brits suggest 600 mg/day as preferred.

The AHA seed money came from Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Crisco, which is ultra-processed artificial trans fat.

I wouldn't take advice from them.

This has been well known for decades by the health culture movement. It is only recently that such knowledge has gone mainstream, likely by the prevalence of hypertension.

The healthcare community is the victim of its own success. Now being swamped with more patients than they can possibly care for they are attempting to scale back the hordes of sick people storming the hospital gates by giving out actual health advice hidden by them for decades.

I use sea salt now from France. I used canning salt before. Gave me bad heartburn. Heartburn about 95% better. I also started to make my own pasta sauce.

Americans consume an INSANE amount of salt if they subscribe to a mainstream modern American diet.
 
Most Americans suffer from high blood pressure because of high sodium foods.
The majority of Americans who suffer from high blood pressure and hypertension do so because of sugar, not salt.

If you feel weak, you're likely salt deficient. Salt used to be worth more than gold and was used as money. Put a salt like in the middle of the forest and watch how many animals partake.

There's also different levels of salt. Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt (high in minerals) is far superior to Morton's Table Salt (almost pure sodium).

The average human needs at least a full teaspoon of quality salt per day (approximately 2300mg).

Getting too little is rare. Too much can damage the kidneys. It does affect blood pressure as well. I can tell when I need to cut back on the salt as my blood pressure goes up by as much as 20 points if I overdo it.

I use both. Sea salt is definitely better tasting. The crunchy crystals are yummy.
 
I noticed that Hebrew National hot dogs taste ike they have way more salt in them than they used to have. I fried two of em up in a cast iron skillet the way I always did. That's when I noticed they were skinnier, when I sliced them down the middle.

I don't eat hot dogs very often at all, but the added salt was very noticeable.

I looked at the nutrition info on their website and each one now has 480mg of sodium. Also looks like they started adding soy to them.

Also, and this is just an aside gripe, they stopped packaging 7 dogs in a pack and now have only six. And they are skinnier. Been a while since I've bought them, which goes to show how seldom I have hot dogs. I didn't notice they shorted one when I picked it up at the store.

But they're still 8 dollars a pack.

Also, the dog buns come 8 in a pack. HelloOooOoo...

It's super hard as EVERYTHING has salt in it. Same with sugar.

And people literally have no awareness of this kind of thing either.

Go to a kindergarten and they're having a snack, which is cake. Why?

Lots of foods are salt delivery systems.
 
I have ingested a very small daily intake since I hit twenty one.
 
It is fairly simple.
Don't eat fast food.... only on rare occasions.
Don't eat processed foods. (Basically anything that is not a raw/unprocessed)
Learn to cook.
The American diet is atrocious. Damning. And is shown quite obviously in our poor health statistics.
Diabetes, exploding cancer rates, exploding HBP rates - all happened after the 1950s when corporations and the government took over the food supply and started adding every chemical/preservatives known to man to increase shelf life. And shorten ours.
