The ship was fired at by fighters. We do not have any records of what the instructions to those pilots was.
We know the Israelis said the ship was Egyptian. They clearly were wrong.
We know several boats with torpedos on them were in the area and at least one fired a torpedo at the ship causing death and much damage.
We can't read the minds of the pilots.
We have no proof that Israel did know what the ship was. Flags can be purchased and put on any ship. If the Liberty flew our flag, to the Israelis it might be a ruse by Egypt.
We also now have a story that it was Lyndon Johnson that ordered the attack. This conspiracy has grown legs. It is like a centipede now.
