USMB Coffee Shop IV

Neighbors maple tree was impeding the growth of my line of lilacs between us so I zipped off 3ft so it can match the height of the rest. He didn't care.
There was an lovely old apple tree in our back yard when we bought the house. It has not been properly pruned over the years so it was huge for an apple tree and dropped hundreds and hundreds of little immature apples every spring, many into the neighbors yard where it overlapped the fence. We had it prune on the neighbors side to minimize that, but finally got to where we just couldn't deal with the mess every year. A friend of a friend agreed to take it out for us at no cost for the apple wood for his fireplace.

We love not having to deal with the mess the tree made. But I still miss it.

Was 1 cat short last night when it came to turning out the lights. Wife saw him this morning but couldn't coax him in. Happened before. If he doesn't come back there are a couple out there that would come in. If nothing else winter might concentrate his thoughts.

The little stray that ran into the house a couple of winters ago is dying. She was barely 5 lbs to begin with. She never made friends with the other cats, she just wanted to be left alone. She did loves her petses though ornery as she was. I'd take her to vet but they've become as big of thieves as human Healthcare providers. Well ya know we need all these tests to begin with blah blah blah. She had some condition which caused her to leave small pools watery blood. Kidneys i think they said
Vet we had when we moved here almost 30 hrs ago was always spot on without a battery of tests.
Took her outback so she could the cool breeze blowing over her. If she makes it to bedtime I'd be surprised.

Good morning coffee shoppers, and happy Monday to all of you. I made a promise to myself a long time ago that when I hit a round 10thousander posting, I would post in the CS. I did it at 10,000 posts and I am now doing it right now, at 20,000.

Friday was a national holiday in Germany. The 3rd of October is "Tag der Deutschen Einheit" (The day of German Unity) which we would call "Reunification Day", commemorating the rejoining of the former BRD (West Germany) and the former DDR (East Germany) into a unified BRD. In this case, it meant an extended weekend and in the province of North-Rhein Westfalia, Fall break has also begun for schoolchildren. Germany, per national law, does a staggered schedule of Fall, Spring and Summer breaks for schoolchildren (and UNI students) so that no two Bundesländer (provinces) that share a border with each other will have vacation in the same week, just alleviating traffic jams on the German Highways. The Union for the German national train system is planning strategic strikes, but decided at the last minute to not strike during any of the Fall breaks.

Enjoy your Monday coffee.

Anyone who thanks this posting gets 20,000 reputation points from me, really!!!!

and again tomorrow!

It's been quite a while since I've made biscuits......... Made some a few days ago for the sausage gravy I made........ First off I added too much lard and secondly the baking powder was ooooooold........ Ended up with melted "pancakes instead. :D

So I picked up some Grands. Now I remember just why I always made my own biscuits. "Canned" biscuits taste terrible, nearly inedible. I did pick up a new can of baking powder and will measure more carefully next time.

Dot Dot the cat that was missing a few days came back home. House felt mty without him. He is the main instigator of mayhem.

I agree that no canned biscuit can compete with a good homemade biscuit. The operative word though is 'good' homemade biscuit. I make pretty darn good biscuits usually. But I've had my disasters too.

I planted new mature fruit trees when I bought this house, and a couple of years ago, the bunnies killed the apple tree. I replaced it, and this was the first year that it really performed, and now I know it will be a neighborhood favorite! Everyone loved the fruit!

I will give it a good hard pruning this winter so the fruit will be bigger. It fruited so heavily and now it's gone to bugs with loads of fruit still on it! I need to be better about getting someone with livestock to come and finish harvesting before it gets this late in the season.

That was the problem with our tree. It was so huge most of the fruit was way out of ladder reach for us and we could not take care of it properly. So the birds and worms pretty much compromised almost all the fruit. In its heyday though it did make wonderful champagne apples.

Yeah, I have a pear tree that grew vertically, a lot, in the four years since I planted it, so we can't reach the fruit on the top. Good pears that folks really like.

It's been interesting to watch the process of the fruit trees adjusting to the new environment and deciding to make good fruit.

It's so hard to lose them. A tough price for all that unconditional love but worth it.
We were down 2 cats and house felt mty. She had been taking care of some kittens for a rescue so we decided to take them. Little one had the same energy as Dot and the female just wanted to be petted. Would have put us at 8 but when Dot came bake we decided against it.

Seems the daughter has quite the lawsuit against a former employer. She was working as a pharmacist's assistant. Apparently there is a law in MN that states you cant deny a new mother access to her cell phone on the job.Never heard of it but her lawyer has. That and the constant harassment by a do nothing manager that has worked in almost a dozen states may wind up in a big fat check to her.

Because I married a guy who got transferred a lot, and each new place sometimes required two or three job moves plus a couple of temp jobs to find a good fit, plus change of jobs after breaks to have kids, I've had a LOT of jobs over the years. In all that time I've had very few bad bosses, but they can make your life miserable.

One of the worst was a manager of a small manufacturing firm in Amarillo. My first clue that it was going to be a really weird situation should have been that before he would hire me, he sent me to his psychiatrist for an IQ test to be sure I was intelligent enough to work for him. :) Terrible job because he had serious anger management issues and was otherwise irrational. Blessedly, I was only there a couple of months and didn't have to find something else before Hombre was transferred to Kansas. In Pittsburg Ks I only had one job for the 3-1/2 years we were there and it was a really great job that I still remember fondly.

Anyway hopefully your daughter's less than happy adventure will have a really nice ending.
