USMB Coffee Shop IV

One of my brothers came to visit a couple of weeks ago, that was nice. Finally started riding my Yamaha again and considering upgrading from this 2009 VStar 950 to a Honda Rebel 1100. Bigger engine, lighter bike, more agile and newer tech. Sell the Yami and use the proceeds to add a fairing, crash bars and saddlebags.

Okay. But if I was your mama, which of course I'm not, I would have to bite my tongue to keep from encouraging you to buy a Subaru or something similarly tank like with extra airbags. :)

Happy Labor Day everybody. This and New Years Day have become my favorite holidays because at our age there are no expectations for them. A day of no mail, pretty much no robo calls, no requirements for any kind of special meals, gifts, other pressures. Well, we have to have blackeyed peas on New Years but that's fun and not really an imposition.

But all the regular anchors are off duty on a really REALLY slow news days so, for your education, in case you were wondering :)

Got a new phone today because 1 had ran down very quickly and goog maps is a must most days. What a pain in the ass.
What did you get? So far I have resisted getting an I-phone as the Androids are so good and so much less expensive. I've been using Galaxy phones for years now and also need a new one soon as my current one has developed some quirks but will probably just get another Galaxy.

Sorry you don't like your Galaxy. We do like ours.

Its ok. There are probably more expensive Galaxies......might have spent more except for bunch of unexpected bills that rained down on us in short order. Had a major water pipe prob which ruined some work we did on house last yr. 1500 on her car.....some med bills........ We're ok, never lived paycheck to paycheck.....got one more project to complete before winter too

We can so relate. Just last week $800 for some necessary maintenance on our trees. For us old retired folks on a modest fixed income, that's pretty painful.

Got a chance a few days back to sit on a new Honda Rebel 1100. Nice but the seat is just a bit too high for my liking. The have a used 2020 Honda Fury, metallic blue that was gorgeous and fir me like a glove.

It's know as a truly rideable production "chopper" that doesn't require the length of a football field to do a u-turn....... Still, while it's a beauty it doesn't fit my needs besides I still have my V Star 950 which is fully paid for.

Fully paid for does definitely have its charms. I find we don't get the new car fever these days like we used to. Our 2018 Subaru Legacy still looks good, runs, good, low mileage etc. and we won't be replacing it for some years I'm sure. We don't even wish we could trade up any more LOL.

Most of the newer, bigger engine bikes have 6 speed transmissions, my older bike is only a 5 speed. The only time that really comes into play is at highway speeds. I always want to shift into the nonexistent 6th gear, not that I'm winding it out as it can handle those speeds easily. Mine's also pretty heavy at just over 600 pounds, the 1300s I've looked at are around 650 to 700 pounds though they are more responsive on the highway with obviously more power.
The thing I really need to do is get out more on my bike and continue recovering my upper body strength after the shoulder injuries set me quite a ways back.

I would recommend a gym over a motorcycle as you know, but that's just me. :)
