USMB Coffee Shop IV

And so there i was toolin down the road in my farm truck smellin' like pig sh*t , when i came up on a head on 3 car crash.

I parked about 100yrs away, and when i got outta my truck some 20ish yr old is all over me about a car on fire with a man inside

So we walk on up, and it's some huge SUV with a family inside Vs. a small compact car with a fat man in with passenger compartment compromised, radiator (or what's left of it) smokin'

I turned all ignitions off (protcall) and told the kid to report to 911

FWIW......Bigger always wins.......add higher to that......

Anyways, aside from the usual airbag and seatbelt trauma , the sole entity unable to part from his vehicle was the fat dude in the small (unrecognizable due to no more front end) car

I made sure ignitions were off, and started opening doors, met another has been ex-emt (it was us two has beens an a nurse at that point) , did a primary and secondary with him, found a closed femur , possible concussion , talking disoriented , tacky (no radial)

finally the real folks that are certified show the 'eff up....

I was in the backseat holding traction when the jaws arrived, they wanted to cut the piece between the doors to extricate (it was a 4 dr) , but the FF manning the jaws could not see the rear pass airbag , which i pointed out to him

Fat boy was airlifted , from what i hear just made it, and yours truly is still livin' the dream along with all the others that stopped in that day

Moral of the story?
Any of you can help your neighbors, and not depend on the gub'mit to give you marching orders. This isn't rocket science , this is what good neighbors do

Wow, what a story Sparky. You probably saved a life today just using good common sense. I hope you were appreciated.

So far so good Boe. And how about you and Mr. Boe and the family? You still toughing it out in California?

Yes, we're still in the belly of the beast. I know it sounds nuts, but we're actually really happy in our house and neighborhood. We've been looking around outside of CA for a new place, but one big consideration is availability of health care. We need an endocrinologist for mr. boe, and they are shockingly scarce. We have some friends in OR that are going through a nightmare with health care. Here in the Bay Area, we have a lot of good health care options. We sure pay for it, though.

Extended family are doing well. Our nephew that you had on the prayer list is doing great - he and his partner are expecting a baby early next year! It will be so exciting to have a new little critter to spoil a bit.

So good to hear.

You wouldn't be the first to be torn between the good and the bad of a place and having to make a value decision about what is best for you. But if you feel safe and part of community where you are, that is a huge plus. And sometimes hard to re-establish someplace else.

Surprised you have so few endocrinologists there though. We have something close to 60 or so in the greater Albuquerque area and Albuquerque and Oakland are similar in population. But the bay area population is several million people yes? And our metro trade area is less than one million.

But your area is so beautiful and our country, though it has its own charms, would probably seem harsh and not so beautiful by comparison. But what holds us here is good medical care--at least compared to other places--and we too feel safe and part of a community in our neighborhood where we have great neighbors. Plus my Aunt Betty who just turned 98 yrs old needs us here for now.

Preparing for the election. Filling out our ballots. Stocking up on items we suspect may be in short supply post-election. Also concerned inflation will return with a vengeance. As it is, $500 of extra supplies is not taking up much room. Adding another $500 in a week or two.

Well, we were mostly fine through Helene. Now we've got Milton coming. It's looking stronger and it is going to go right over us if the projections are correct. We're still in a good area, outside evacuation zones, not too close to the shore. Hopefully we can get off with just some power outages again this time. 🤞

So today's exercise to know ourselves better (cough), today I learned that if you see a fish in this picture you are left brained, and if you see an airplane you are right brained. So what do you see?

Well....just survived our 5th Hurricane is two years. This is getting really old. This year alone we had Debbie, Helene, and now Milton. We got off lucky. Most in our area north of Tampa are without power. Many trees down. Tampa, St Pete, and areas south are devastated. We never lost power which is a miracle. I boarded up the house. That is already taken down. I have a 10 ft by 15 ft pile of broken tree limbs and yard debris piled up at the street.

I really feel for the folks south of Tampa Bay. Very, very bad. But me and my family are safe of which I am very grateful. Pray for the folks who are suffering. There are many.

We have plenty of health care options here in the Bay Area - one of the reasons why we stay. The small towns we are looking at outside of CA have pretty dismal situations, imo.

This has been an extra fun week for mr. boe and me. We've been to 3 concerts! The best one was TOM JONES!!!! at the Fox Theatre. He's 84 years old. I had to see him at least once before he dies (sorry) -and had to promise mr. boe that I would not throw underwear at him (he wasn't to enthused about going). But the show was fantastic! mr. boe loved it too. Tom is in great shape and his voice is still gorgeous. I hope he lives to be 100.

The Sandia Casino Resort, fairly close to us here--owned by the Sandia Indian Pueblo--has an outdoor amphitheater and frequently offers concerts of mostly older musical entertainers or groups who generally work for much more reasonable rates than the more current headliners. Not only are all of them still great entertainers but they do music as it was before they took the melody of it and when it still had strong lyrics.

But alas, I've never had a chance to see Tom Jones and probably won't. And I really did/do enjoy his music.

I just saw a couple of bands at House of Blues in Orlando last Thursday: Born of Osiris and Jinjer (there was a third band in between, but I was not a fan). I didn’t like how Jinjer fid one of my favorite songs of theirs, but it was still a good show.
I was going to see a band called Demon Hunter on Monday, but it got canceled because of the hurricane. ☹️

You’ve probably never heard of any of them, of course. I know who Tom Jones is, though! 🙃

Happy that WelfareQueen and Montrovant and those they love continue to escape the worst of the hurricanes and I hope that's true of any others in the paths of the storms. May it continue to be that way. Better yet it's time for Florida to get a few years' break from these storms. You're getting far more than your fair share.
