Putin has publicly stated that he is not interested in negotiating a peace deal with Zelensky whom he intensely dislikes, or with the Americans because he doesn't trust to them keep their word.
Also, the polls in Russia are 85% pro Putin and the people want the war in Ukraine to be waged more aggressively.

Dear Uncle says whatever he thinks the Numpties want to hear .

He has just approved a huge extra military budget and aims to increase numbers up to 1.3 million .
So take his negotiation chats with a huge pinch of salt .
Unless the Palestine lads need help in Syria , for example , and he does not want to divide his resources
If the Nazis want to hand over Kharkov ,Kherson , Zaporizhysia and Odessa with Kyiv doing as it is told , he will be happy .
Otherwise he will just play games .

I have doubts about the Russian people WANTING the war to continue.

Putin has taken his time and proceed cautiously in the war in order to save Russian soldier's lives. Basically using the tactics Russian army learned during WW2 while fighting the Germans.

Which is to use hundreds of artillery canons firing massive barrages for days to pulverize the Ukraine forces front lines. Then what's left of the Ukrainian soldiers finally pull back several miles. The Russian soldiers advance and repeat the artillery barrages again.

This is a slow steady tactic that saves a lot of Russian lives.
But many Russian citizens don't understand this and want Putin to field the 300,000 solders he has in reserve to rapidly advance and quickly defeat Ukraine and win the war.
