Oh.It’s a mocking name due to the puny nature of the amount.
Well, that was not worth stalling the conversation over, I must say. So back to what I was saying:
Anyway, you completely miss the point. Trump is trying to find a way to pay the troops. Republicans want to re-open government and pay the troops and everyone else that gets a federal check.
Democrats are trying to stop him so that their suffering will continue to give them "leverage."
Even the liberal media is pointing that out. Not paying the troops and calling it a failure if Trump's attempt to do so does not provide the full amount that Democrats are depriving them of is a terrible bragging point.
Give them what they want and then negotiate? Sounds like a poor start to negotiations. And just to confirm, do you want your not-party to agree to your favorite party's proposals. correct? so simple!
How about your party giving your not-party what they want, and then negotiate later?
Negotiating later is a good thing in your book. Right?
Yes, as soon as the small group of Democrats stop blocking funding for the government, Republicans will be able to negotiate with them about the ACA COVID Supplement.*
Democrats could do very well in those negotiations. The media is on their side, MTG Republicans support it and other Republican voters arent' that worried about it. It isn't a lot of money relative to government, and I doubt Trump cares much either way.
But, of course Republicans are not going to give in to blackmail, because doing so only encourages more blackmail.
The Affordable Care Act has been a disaster since it was voted in without a single republican vote, and the subsidies voted since then - again without a single Republican vote - only confirmed that it did not at all live up to its name.
*Unfortunately, the ACA COVID Supplement isn't really the Democrats' main demand in my opinion. Neither is the money for PBS and NPR. It's the medicaid for people who crossed the border illegally that the Dems are falling on their swords for.
Republicans will never give in on that one, so outcome will surely be a a few more Democrats joining Fetterman et al, to re-open government against the wishes of AOC and her minions Jeffries and Schumer.
