Tobacco accounts for more deaths every year in the USA than alcohol and illegal drugs put together. Yet I can buy a pack of smokes almost anywhere in the USA. I was told as a teenager that possessing one seed from a marijuana plant was a felony. By a cop smoking a cigarette.

Got a link to that data, because so few people smoke these days, I find it hard to believe. I do not know a single person that still smokes.

The hippies in the San Francisco seventies, learned the Indica strains (that can be more potent than the Sativa, and flower earlier due to their origins farther from the equator, changed what Americans wanted to smoke. In the heyday, those hippies made a yearly wage by growing a few plants in the woods. Outdoor grown was the best... inside, under lights were second rate. That changed as the science of indoor grows made it the best "product".

In recent history some people learned that filling a tube with "pot flowers" and shooting butane through that tube ...results in what they now cal "dabs". It looks like peanut brittle without peanuts. This is used with high heat to enable the user to inhale huge amounts of THC in one "hit". This is where humans can easily "go off the rails on the crazy train" when it comes to this plant, that has been with us for about 20,000 years.

Curious that you say that as I recall back around 1970, the CIA was tasked with researching the effects of LSD as a possible drug to use to either program agents with or extract info from, and after the two year study, what the CIA concluded was that whatever the effects of LSD (which fell short of their hopes and expectations), that LSD still wasn't as damaging to the body in the long term than was alcohol.

The CIA thought that LSD might be a "truth serum" where the victim would not know he was divulging secrets. One of our "soldiers" was given a dose without his knowledge, thought that he had gone insane and jumped out of his window in downtown D.C. Another "soldier" was given a massive dose and was tortured ( by our CIA).... talk about a bad trip.

I believe that, I really do. Perhaps a bit surprised with LSD but certainly for weed I'd believe that.

Alcohol is legitimate poison in a true form and it's why the body works so hard to extract it, even if it means vomiting.

No it hasn't bolstered the black market. In CA one can grow it or go to a dispensary and get it at a better price and with no fear of getting caught buying illegal shit. Tobacco is vaped and smoked in public and it smells really bad and no, one is not going to get high from 2nd hand marijuana smoke or vape. I was a heavy tobacco smoker and quit many years ago and, now I can smell nasty cigarette smoke from a long ways away and, I can smell it on smokers clothes so I do understand those who don't like the smell of marijuana. Of course, some perfumes make me gag too but I'm not for instituting a 'smell patrol.'

Keif is the street name of a product that is made up of the "crystals" you see on highly potent pot. These are Glandularly Stalked Trichomes. By freezing the plant material, including the unsaleable leaves and small flowers you can then "sift" those plant materials through a fine mesh used for silk screening to produce a white powder called Keif that can be used to smoke or heated to the point that ingesting releases the psychoactive properties. These enabled growers to market more of there "crop".

Drugs are like anything else, not everyone is cut out to be a marksman, not everyone is cut out to be a great runner, thinker or leader. There are a lot of people I would not trust with a gun in their hand. Any law that treats everyone the same regarding drugs is a lost cause from the start because while some people cannot handle a single cocktail without being unable to stand or drive, I've known other people whom could drink half a Fifth, drop acid, then beat the hell out of you in combat, take three slugs to the gut, use the other half of the Fifth left over to pour into his bleeding wounds, then keep coming at you to finally beat you to death with the remainder of the broken butt off the rifle he carried before he himself bled away.

The first person barely makes it through life even on his best of days; the latter cannot be stopped from living as long as there is even a single beat still left in his heart.

The "black market" for pot is alive and well. An honest criminal can sell a once of weed for $200. The pot seller that has permission from his state (regulations, taxes inspection, lab reports etc....) Has to charge $400.

Most people that relied on a "drug dealer" to score some weed, back in the day, were often offered other drugs at the time of the sale. Coke, LSD, Qualudes, Speed, Mushrooms etc.. The legal pot shops make way too much money to even think about doing anything like this. This is a significant point in favor of "pot shops"

That is only half true. I can accept the above with the caveat: *with SOME people.

Just because some, maybe most people get seasick riding a boat does not mean that everyone will. Medicine is supposed to be a legitimate science that does not ignore the many promising and good effects reported for thousands of years just because one predictable subset of society tends to abuse and not handle well the effects of the same given drug.

I told my nephews that pot makes you lazy and will steer you into a profession that will allow you to use it.....Like being a public school teacher, for instance. (They never get drug tested). Want to be a pilot? Or a boat Captain, or a military officer, or work in the vast amount of jobs that require a drug screen? Don't smoke pot!. Now if you want to be a guy that makes dog hats for a living...well go for it.
