Saddam's Republican Guard had the same T-72s that were the standard Russian tank at that time. Yes, some of his forces were using modernized models of T-55 built by China, but they were as capable as the T-72s except for the smaller gun that couldn't fire AT missiles that Saddam didn't use anyway. The T-90s Putin started the Ukraine war with were no more capable than the T-72 and were easily dispatched by the Czech built T-84s (T-72 clones) Ukraine was using. Now Putin is reduced to using T-55s and T-62s because even his huge stocks of T-80s, T-72s and T-64s have been destroyed by Ukrainian troops trained to western standards and partially armed with US Javelins and western tanks. Russia is now reduced to WWI tactics of sending slightly reinforced by obsolete tanks mass infantry wave attacks against modern weapons like the French did in 1940. As for the range issue, the Abrams ALWAYS outranged the 125mm Rapira gun in the T-72/T-80/T-90. That's why the Russians developed the AT missile for the 125mm gun which hasn't proven to be a success in Ukraine since Putin didn't use them when he had the chance. The 105mm guns on early Abrams easily outranged the 125mm guns and depending on the round could destroy Russian armor at ranges exceeding 6,000 meters exceeding the range of the missile fired by the 125mm. The 120mm outranged all the munitions fired by Russian armor.
