Apparently too much.... I would lean more in favor of it if it was going to be ready within the next six to eight months.
The article says two to three years. I don't know It just seems like it's too long to wait.

Easy Yes or No?

Can you answer?

But now I don't know if there's an easy answer to it.
The current planes are no longer completely safe.
Accepting the gift doesn't do much to help the situation since it will take too long to renovate it. The OP isn't necessarily wrong.... Problem is the time involved.

Yes we need a replacement..... No we don't need one that's going to take three years. But where does that leave us?

The current planes are no longer completely safe.
Why is that?
Because trump said so?

How about this from ChatGPT?

is the Air Force 1 plane for the POTUS still safe and functional ?

Yes, the current Air Force One aircraft—two modified Boeing 747-200Bs designated VC-25A—remain safe and fully functional for presidential transport. The VC-25A fleet is operated by the Presidential Airlift Group under the 89th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Andrews. These aircraft undergo regular and rigorous maintenance cycles, including updates to avionics, communications, and defensive systems, to ensure they remain mission-ready. For instance, in 2020, a VC-25A (tail number 29000) completed a maintenance cycle ahead of schedule, which included the installation of modern systems like Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and Identify Friend or Foe Mode 5, enhancing situational awareness and operational capability .WikipediaAFLCMC

Plans for Replacement

Recognizing the aging nature of the current fleet, the U.S. Air Force has initiated a program to replace the VC-25A aircraft with two new Boeing 747-8-based VC-25B models. These new aircraft will feature advanced communications, updated defensive systems, and improved efficiency. While initial delivery was scheduled for 2024, delays have pushed the expected delivery to 2027, with efforts underway to accelerate completion .

The current Air Force One aircraft, designated VC-25A, are modified Boeing 747-200Bs that have been in service since 1990. While they are aging, they are not considered dangerous. The U.S. Air Force maintains them with rigorous safety protocols, ensuring they remain mission-ready. However, their age presents challenges, such as sourcing obsolete parts and increased maintenance demands. Aerotech News & Review+5Wikipedia+5Air & Space Forces Magazine+5Popular Science

In 2016, a maintenance lapse led to contamination of the oxygen system on one VC-25A, resulting in $4 million in repairs. Boeing covered the costs, and no injuries occurred. Such incidents underscore the importance of meticulous maintenance as aircraft age.Flight Global+4Hill Air Force Base+4Aerotech News & Review+4Hill Air Force Base+5Air & Space Forces Magazine+5Air Force Times+5

To address these challenges, the Air Force initiated the VC-25B program, aiming to replace the current aircraft with two new Boeing 747-8-based models. Originally slated for delivery by 2024, delays have pushed the timeline to 2027 and 2028. AP News+7AFLCMC+7Wikipedia+7Wikipedia

In the interim, President Trump has proposed accepting a $400 million Boeing 747-8 jet from Qatar's royal family as a temporary Air Force One. In summary, while the current Air Force One aircraft are aging, they remain safe due to stringent maintenance. However, their age necessitates increased upkeep and has prompted plans for their replacement. do you think Trump is the first potus to accept gifts ?

what about this one>>>

BIG difference, the Statue of Liberty was given to our nation and not to the president. In addition, Trump will end up "personally" owning the plane after 2029, when the new plane being built by Boeing gets delivered.

This means that Trump will get about $1 billion in his pocket (considering everything that will now be put on the plane to retrofit it).

AI Overview

Yes, it is expected that the Trump Presidential Library Foundation will receive the Boeing 747-8 aircraft gifted by Qatar after 2029, specifically after the end of President Trump's second term, which concludes in January 2029
.
Here is the law about these things:

AI Overview

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution is also known as the Foreign Emoluments Clause or Emoluments Clause. It prohibits individuals holding offices of profit or trust under the United States from accepting gifts, titles, or other emoluments from foreign powers without the consent of Congress. This clause aims to prevent potential corruption and ensure the loyalty of US officials to the nation.

Boeing improved the delivery on the two new ones to 2027.
We don't need to waste a $billion upgrading the "gift" 747 and delaying delivery of the other two, just to move the "gift" 747 to the Trump library.

I think that is problematic. We need to produce everything necessary to build a plane in less than 4 years.
We can unless the DOD puts stupid requirements on the manufacturing, like everyone who works on AF-1 electronics needs to have a security clearance.

The following is a response to the question does Air Force One need to be replaced?

Yes, Air Force One needs to be replaced. The current fleet consists of two VC-25A aircraft, which are based on the older Boeing 747-200 model. These aircraft are nearing the end of their service life and are becoming increasingly expensive to maintain. The Air Force has been planning to replace them for years, and Boeing was contracted to convert two VC-25B jets from 747-8i airliners.

Here's why a replacement is necessary:
    • Age and Maintenance Costs:
The current 747-200s are aging and becoming more expensive to maintain.
    • Technological Advancement:
The new VC-25B jets will incorporate advanced communications and security features to better protect the President and ensure secure communication.
    • Operational Reliability:
The new jets will be designed with improved reliability and efficiency compared to the current fleet.
    • Production Issues:
The replacement project has faced delays due to production issues, wiring design problems, and other challenges.
    • Cost:
The Air Force's budget for the project is projected to be nearly $4 billion.
The current replacement plans involve Boeing converting two existing 747-8i airliners into the VC-25B standard, but the process has faced delays and may not be completed until 2029.

Yeah..but its not really saving money. The gift is going to have to be completely retro fitted from top to bottom to make it AF1 worthy. Plus, haven't they already spent a bunch on the current Boeing builds?
