He is correct that the US needs Greenland for national security purposes, and the US has been saying this since the late 19th century. It is not the US but Denmark that is being unreasonable in this dispute.

Of course not, but he should be leaning on the Danish to deal with that problem or he can send our own navy out into international waters as a deterrent. Continuing to rattle the sabers of us "taking" Greenland is a hostile way to treat an allied nation.

The US has been trying to buy Greenland from Denmark since 1867 and Trump has been involved in negotiations with Denmark during both terms, but Denmark, which depends on the US military presence in Greenland for its own defense has refused all offers. It was at that point the President said he would not rule out annexing Greenland.
