This is Weird. Greenland's Danish Rulers Reject Hospital for Sick Greenlanders because it is Donald Trump who is Offering it.

Sending a hospital ship to help people who have reached out to say that they are unable to get medical care under their country's system seems like a very good example of using honey to catch flies

It was. Too bad it was mitigated by all of the caustic friction Trump stirred up first between the countries with all of his needless bravado.

If the people of Greenland decide to join the United States, medical services could easily be provided by selling oil leases and using the money to subsidize insurance policies. Once they have insurance, providing them medical care will be profitable.

Kelsey Seybold, for example, is very good at building large medical facilities very quickly. They are also good at holding down costs. Not saying they are perfect, but I've been happy with their care and they have never put me on a wait list.

Exactly.

As far as I know, Canada doesn't send people to Britain for treatment. This is why I say Greenland is the last vestige of European colonialism.

I live in Houston, but my ancestors were from Scottland. If I were told that I would have to go to Glasgow for life-saving treatment and there was a hospital ship open to me in Galveston Bay, that's a pretty easy choice.
You happen to be a very reasonable person. I had a grandfather who was born and raised in TX. I have relatives living there. I have been in TX 2 times.

So he can never make amends?

Sure. If Trump wants to get anywhere with Greenland, he is going to have make them. But for now, Trump has literally backed Greenland into a corner where now if they were to accept the much-needed help from Trump, they would be seen as having folded under and acquiesced to Trump's bullying.

Bizarre.

WASHINGTON – Greenland rejected a seemingly impromptu plan by Donald Trump to send a hospital boat to the island he's trying to acquire, saying in a searing statement that the U.S. president should respect the territory's sovereignty and stop needling it on social media.

“It’s a no thank you from here," Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen said. "President Trump’s idea of sending an American hospital ship here to Greenland has been noted."

The statement followed Trump's announcement in a Feb. 21 social media post that he planned to send a hospital vessel to Greenland to care for sick residents of the Arctic island, whom he said weren't receiving treatment.

"Working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are going to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick and not being taken care of there. It’s on the way!!!" Trump said, referring to his special envoy to the island.

Nowhere in the story does Denmark say they are sending their own hospital shop or building a hospital in Greenland to provide desperatately needed healthcare. It is long past time for the last vestiges of European colonialism to be eradicated from the Americas.

The United States has a long-standing agreement allowing fulsome access to Greenland, and of course is free to operate ships in the international waters near Greenland. If the Danish rulers prevent Greenlanders from getting treatment in the American hospital ship, they will have to do it by confining the native people to the island, because it has no authority and certainly no power to preven the U.S. from offering it.

Greenland is not in any corner. The natives won't believe that nor will Denmark

Greenland is not in any corner.

It is a corner of national pride. Both Greenland and Canada want to be seen as antonymous and treated with due respect. Trump has been rather disrespectful to both.

Trump's cowboy tactics don't go over well with Europeans.

Europe is not the gold standard. Trump merely offered help.

Greenland has a publicly funded healthcare system providing free medical services to residents, with specialized care often requiring transfer to larger facilities or abroad.

In short, they don't need what Trump is offering.

Another MAGAT lie.

That is a childish attitude.

Anyway, as far as I know, Trump is offering this help to needy individual Greenlanders, not to the Danish colonial government.

If nobody wants the help, the ship will go home. Or maybe offer services to Canadians about to run out of time on a Canadian waitlist.

Unfortunately, Trump was not advised that both of our hospital ships are in Mobile, AL in a shipyard undergoing maintenance, and neither are available.
Um, you know that a ship can come out of maintenance just as easily as it can go in, correct?

Maybe you don't know that. Ayn Rand wrote about bureaucrats who think that their regulations superceded the laws of nature.

It is to Europe.

Trump merely offered help.
Sweet. But he does so after months of berating these people with ultimatums that they have no choice but be taken over by the USA. Marco has much work to do. I would approach the issue as mutual partners with some treaty between the countries.

Trump has not bullied anybody in Greenland or Denmark.

Here is what he actually said. "With their consent."
