So what EXACTLY does Donald Trump think we or the rest of the world should do about Houthi attacks on commercial shipping and U.S. warships in the Red Sea? Should we do NOTHING?

Actually U.S. strikes have so far been carefully and precisely aimed at the weapons systems and storage facilities used by the Houthis (and financed by Iran). Meanwhile the U.S. has encouraged the Saudis and Houthis to continue their peace negotiations.

The truth is that passing thru the Red Sea and the very narrow Bab-el-Mandeb channel choke point opposite Yemen is, even back in 2018… “an estimated 6.2 million barrels per day of crude oil, condensate and refined petroleum products” as well as countless other crucial commodities passing between Europe and Asia.

Putin, facing broad-ranching sanctions for invading Ukraine, is still hoping to see Ukraine and Europe freeze and suffer due to their resistance to his imperial plans, so despite years of good relations with Israel he has now changed his position and all but openly supports the Iran-back Houthi attacks.

Of course this makes him popular with the “Arab street” and the Iranian Mullah theocracy too. Could it be that Trump’s own criticism of the limited and carefully conducted strikes on Houthi missile supply bases is connected to his general defense of Putin’s interests? Trump is certainly still a defender of Israel, though he has been pretty silent about exactly what he would suggest the Biden Administration should do in dealing with Gaza. Does he think the U.S.should seek to pressure Israel to “cease fire” immediately and accept Hamas? I for one have no idea. But don’t worry, Trump will resolve all these problems … “in one day.”
