Unlike most other presidents, Donald Trump has twice had the chance to preside over economic expansion and reap the rewards.
And he has screwed it up. Twice.
Trump became the second president in recent American history to see fewer jobs on his way out than he saw coming in. Trump went through a similar situation in January 2017, when the country was still recovering from the Great Recession that began under former President George W. Bush and was returning to growth following policies put in place by former President Barack Obama, most notably the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Instead, he listened to the only person in the world he respects: himself. That’s why his economy failed in his first term, and that’s why it is now failing in its second.
