Why does government want to try and restrict how people show patriotism?

What is wrong with flying the US flags at their place of business?

An ordinance restricting the number of flags allowed up for display has some North Carolina business owners seeing a lot of red, and not as much white and blue.

The city of Raleigh has limited the number of American flags — and any other banners or signs — to three per property.

But that policy doesn't fly with Kevin Powell, co-owner of a used auto dealership called Martin Auto Haus that has 12 Old Glories waving in the wind, or with Chuck Bright, who owns a gas station called Fiddle Stix that is festooned with seven of Betsy Ross' creations.

Both men say they have no intention of taking all but three of their flags down by Sunday, the city-imposed deadline to remove the extras before a fine of $500 per day will be

What's the big deal? 10 flags doesn't mean you're 10 times more patriotic than the next person.

Why is this newsworthy?

A bunch of politicans, with to much time on their hands, are trying to tell people they cannot display more then a certain number of flags

Why is it their business in the first place?

Who cares one way or the other? It's a city ordinance. Obviously, they reside in that city. Either comply with it, move or pay $500 a day - in any case, it's not newsworthy for anything other than someone just wants something to bitch about, because there's not enough bullshit going on in the world..

I wonder if the city would be this upset if it was any other flag other the a US flag

The owners said they will not take the flags down - even if they have to pay the fines

It is like the homeowners associations who bitch at people if they hang US flags outside their own homes

Well, that's what you get for CHOOSING to be a part of that particular neighborhood, and thus subject to the HOA's rules. You have the ability to check all that out BEFORE purchasing your home. That you didn't, speaks poorly of you - not the association.

If you don't like the rules, leave. Simple as that. But, you don't get to march into a town, and then expect that towns rules to change just for you.

I wonder Shattered, with the way both parties are bowing to illegals, if it were Mexican flags, would they try and force people to take them down

If you OWN the property, what right does the government have to tell you cannot fly as many US flags as you want?

Wait, if a Conservative tells a whining sniveling liberal to stop bad mouthing America or leave... what is your response again?

Conservatives get mad about this because they can't get their own restrictions: on the number of Mexicans standing in the parking lot!

By the way, if anyone wanted to limit the number of MEXICAN flags? Lawsuit.

I can not think of why anyone would create such a law except fire hazard.

For example some person covered their house and property wiht flags it would be a fire hazard.

Three is just pushing it too far.

If if was for fire hazard reasons it should have been a law which did not number the flags but states that a fire hazard is present.

I think their may be some little Hitlers in this town.

That actually is NOT the same thing. You have to agree in wirting to abide by the Homeowner's Association rules PRIOR TO being allowed to buy a house in their neighborhood.

True, this one's about contract, not freedom of speech. I'm pretty torn on a thing like this. In all honesty, it IS possible to erect a display so large and garish as to be an eyesore. How about a 100-foot American flag? Nah, let's be reasonable.
