I am just a hobbyist but I think I can accurately post it

1) MMA - you get a good mix of everything and it’s famous ground and pound

2) Boxing - easy to learn and highly effective . Just don’t think you will ever be mayweather

3) wrestling - has plenty of standing and ground and you will dominate . Very complex ‘

4) Muay Thai - fightinge with 8 limbs !! Easy to learn but you may never be good

5) BJJ.- ground submission system that is harder than advanced calculus

6)judo - one good throw ends it but it’s very killer on the body and super complex and loses effectiveness with the no gi

7) Krav Maga - Simple and effective snd easy to learn and you don’t have to be a Jew lol

8) Karate- many outdated moves and silky katas but it’s better than nothing

9) TKD - just crazy kicks if you have the flexibility

10) Kung Fu - so silly even the Chinese don’t do it but you can and get beaten up . Only thing worse is akido

never bring martial arts......to a gun or knife fight.

I competed in Tae Kwon Do at one point. Could do a full split and kick a 6'6" man in the head hard.

however, you can STILL be sucker punched, shot or jumped by multiple attackers.
A machete is also very hard to defend against with a violent attacker.
The very best way to deal with a confrontation is to avoid it.

and btw...TKD is MUCH more than just kicks.
We trained with edged weapons and grappling and joint locks among other things.

Sambo is also good but it’s very hard to find in the USA ..so I don’t even mention it . Judo plus wrestling plus kick boxing
Kick boxing has been replaced with MT in the USA

That is one of the more sensible posts, I have ever seen you make.

I won't talk bad about marftial arts. I studied Krav Maga for a time and am pretty proficient with it.

But I'm 58 years old. My bones hurt. I'm tired.

So, enjoy engaging someone with your martial arts.

I'll opt for Kimber...

The martial arts may allow you to gain control of your enemy's weapon and use it against him.

Anyone with a gun who stands close enough to have it taken, deserves to have it taken.
Agreed.
We practiced disarming assailants with kicks.
I could do it at one time. I could snap a kick to the wrist hard enough to break a gun free faster than you could react and squeeze the trigger.

Anyone who trained enough could do ever better. I miss my youth.

thank you....you just need to read more of them....with your thinking cap on and less bias ;)

Roughed up, shaken down and robbed. Time and time again.
A machete is also very hard to defend against with a violent attacker.
Some of them had knives.
The very best way to deal with a confrontation is to avoid it.
Not really. I'm over 40, and my enemies need to meet their Maker and face a Final Judgment for what they have done to me and continue to do to me.

Some training is too technical, and not adaptable enough. Evasive maneuvers and counter-attacks need to be brought.

Agreed.
Damned city cops hustle and bustle in the crowd, almost bump-and-grind dance with their pistols at their hips.
You don't ever see military cops coming that close with a gun. They leave just enough space to draw it out and shoot if need be.

Retention holsters are awesome.

The thing about martial arts is you have to repeat it until it is burned into muscle memory.
(As well as physically train)
If you have to think about your defense, you aren't ready.

Your training should simply take over and you let your mind and body do what it was trained to do.
sometimes after the dust settles you amaze yourself.

Ask highly skilled fighers if they think of every move. They don't.

Boxing is very high on my list
Traditional Japanese JJ has died out !! Very hard to find and very outdated

Even the Japanese don’t do JJ
many masters have died and very little passed down
Kali - Is the best weapons art for stick and knives

Agreed, I was in TKD for 8 years, and it's far more effective than many think, however...you have to keep training or your skills will erode.

The main problem is that most guys don’t have the flexibility and the system lacks western boxing and has outdated defense
