I Live Out Here In The Heartland
Dead Center On The East Edge Of The Plains
Hot Out Here In August
So We Keep The Grill Out Side The Back Door
We Do Much Of Our Casual Daily Cooking Out-Side
So We Don't Heat The A/C In The House
Today, I've Got
Asparagus, Ears Of Corn, And A 2# Ohsee Ham
A Thirty Minute Cook At 250 Degrees
Flip Your Chimney Up-Side Down
(Folks, You Gotta Have A Chimney)
Load Your Charcoal On The Bottom
Pack Your Paper Up The Long End... Light The Paper
This Way You're Not Over-Using Your Fuel
Now On The Corn, I Peel Back The Husk
Remove The Silk And Roll The Husk Back Over The Ears
I Don't Get That Coveted Char Caramelization
But My Kernels Don't Shrivel And Dry Either
They Remain Great For Left-Overs
The Asparagus, Gets Olive Oil And Garlic Powder
I Put Those Straight On The Grating
And Roll Back And Forth With My Hand
The Ham Is Pre-Cooked
So I Only Need To Heat To The Center
And Caramelize The Sauce
When I First Saw Food Service Wearing Gloves
I Thought It Was For Food Sanitation
Maybe...
But For Me It's To Keep All That Crap Off My Hands
Never Cook With-Out Exam Gloves Anymore
Snag A Pocket Of 'Em At The Doctor's And Hospital
It's All Over-Head And They Throw The Stuff Away
The Nurses Gave Me Everything In My Room Saying:
"House Keeping Is Going To Throw Everything Away Anyhow..."
So Be It
Get Yourself Some Gloves
A Trick I Learned On Vacation And Fishing Trips
Clean-Up An Clear As You Go
It's Great To Sit Down To Eat
And Not Have Dishes To Do Afterward
Bon Appetit...
