This One is Not Going to Work

Well...I guess it has some symbolic value..people are going to speak whatever language they wish.
Some will make a big deal about this..perceiving it as victory or loss--but really...just a 'meh' to me~

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Friday designating English as the official language of the United States, according to the White House.

The order will allow government agencies and organizations that receive federal funding to choose whether to continue to offer documents and services in language other than English, according to a fact sheet about the impending order.

It was not immediately clear when on Friday that Trump planned to sign the order.

The executive order will rescind a mandate from former President Bill Clinton that required the government and organizations that received federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.

Designating English as the national language “promotes unity, establishes efficiency in government operations, and creates a pathway for civic engagement,” according to the White House.

More than 30 states have already passed laws designating English as their official language, according to U.S. English, a group that advocates for making English the official language in the United States.

For decades, lawmakers in Congress have introduced legislation to designate English as the official language of the U.S., but those efforts have not succeeded.

The Marxist left opposes this because their goal is always to keep America divided. Trump knows one language unifies the country.

Do you think an executive order will magically make everyone in the country fluent in English? This would be symbolic at most.

It will take more than that. But the government shouldn't go overboard to make it easy for people not to assimilate. Like printing everything in eight different languages.

The difference is the US and state gov'ts won't be wasting all the money to print every gov't document in 180 different languages. If a person immigrates to the US, it is incumbent on them to assimilate, not vice versa.

Nearly every other country in the world has done this. Why wouldn't it work here?

You said 14th amendment, but that's not right. Many countries with birthright citizenship have official languages, such as most in central and south America.
True. Other countries laugh at our self-defeating PC nonsense. Trump is doing a great remedying that. Getting rid of the DEI crap. Getting rid of the climate change crap. Clearing out all the woke garbage. Firing LGBT activist agency directors. This is yet another step. Trump is well on the way to being the greatest president of all time.

Got forced onto the liquor industry and pretty much ended right there.
That and pretty much every scientific endeavor. We lost a Mars probe because some people refused to work with the world's standards.

I dunno..like much of what Trump does..this feels..punitive!

From the OP link:

Within hours of Trump’s inauguration last month, the new administration took down the Spanish language version of the official White House website.

Hispanic advocacy groups and others expressed confusion and frustration at the change. The White House said at the time it was committed to bringing the Spanish language version of the website back online. As of Friday, it was still not restored.

The White House did not immediately respond to a message about whether that would happen.

Trump shut down the Spanish version of the website during his first term. It was restored when President Joe Biden was inaugurated.

1) You make claims.

2) You get asked for specifics backing up your claims.

3) You reply; "HUH, wut?"

4) F
He's right. There is no requirement to speak English, there is if one is naturalizing but anyone born here is under no obligation, just how stupid are you?

Trying to make an "official language" for the US is not going to work. Too many practical and constitutional problems with the idea.

That's not the point, numbskull.

The point is that official gubmint documents won't now be printed up in 28 languages.

Actually that was because one group was using English Standard (inches and feet, etc.) while the other was using metric, but they weren't in sync with each other.

Right, if they had all been using the same system there would have been no problems related to measurement conversions. Metric is simpler to use, and the rest of the world mostly uses it. I think we should have converted in the 70's because we'd be very accustomed to it now.

Good luck then trumpanzees, next time you're at a US airport be prepared for delays as thousands of people keep stopping you and asking you where various places are because all signage is now only in English, great move Don, another big step forward for mankind.
