No one running in the New York elections ran as a communist. They ran as progressives, largely opposed to the disastrous policies put in place by Republicans, like an abusive anti-immigrant regime, social safety net cuts, and tax cuts for the wealthy.

The attack was boringly familiar to anyone who’s paid attention to U.S. politics for the last 60-plus years. Conveniently for the right, whoever is in charge of the Democratic Party or is an influential voice within the party is one of the Four Horsemen of communism or socialism.

What has happened is that millions of Americans have lived through decades of policies tilted heavily in favor of the ultrawealthy. Trump is the latest in a long line of Republicans who’ve twisted the political and legal system in favor of these elites, who have recently been dubbed “the Epstein class” for the sex trafficker so many of them palled around with.

The trickledown train of the Epstein class is running out of steam.

Didn't you pay attention to your grammar lessons?

Sorry.

The Left pushes the idea that in a prosperous society, "everyone" should be guaranteed a minimal standard of life. And if it does not come organically from the economic activity of the society, then the Sovereign should fill in the gaps. This requires that the Sovereign confiscate some of the wealth of the most prosperous citizens in order to pay for those gap-fillers, to wit, housing, food, healthcare, education, and transportation to and from work. In effect, make them "free." This process is often called, "wealth transfer." [It is not actually "socialism" because property and the means of production remain in private hands].

The United States Constitution does not allow for our national government to facilitate this wealth transfer. Under our Constitution, Congress lacks the power to do it, and in the listing of citizens' rights, none of these things is even hinted.

The political Left refuses to accept this Constitutional limitation, and for the past hundred years or so, it (the Left) has created a Federal "safety net" that fills in some of the aforesaid gaps, albeit with limited success. The Supreme Court has reluctantly gone along with all this unconstitutional nonsense, thus giving the Left encouragement in its campaign to, in effect, nullify the Tenth Amendment.

It is noteworthy that the Constitution says nothing about limits on the States' powers, or those of municipalities around the country (other than D.C.), so that if the mayor of New York City, for example, wants to provide all of those gap fillers to its citizens, at the expense of its most prosperous citizens, the Constitution does not stand in the way.

We on the Right don't object to this "socialist" regime in NYC because it is unconstitutional; we merely point out that it is stupid and doomed to failure. It requires an industrious society, not one where "gaming the system" is the prevalent mode of life.

But if prosperous New Yorkers must suffer, let it happen. We MAGA outsiders are simply sitting in the seats eating our popcorn, and enjoying the show.

The hard Right has been making the same mistake since Reagan's "government is the problem" speech line: They think that any controls are bad, when controls are actually a critical component of capitalism.

A lack of controls by Greenspan played a huge role in the 2008 Meltdown, the effects of which we are still feeling today. But the flock ignorantly blames the Meltdown on their mortal "enemies".

Capitalism is the greatest engine of growth and prosperity, but it needs to be controlled. Otherwise it gets completely out of balance, as we are seeing. And now, since we have refused to, something crappy like socialism is becoming more popular.

Self inflicted wound. As usual.
