I usually agree with you Wry Catcher, but on this, I feel you are wrong. The illegal aliens need to be stopped. Our Federal Government is not and has not been protecting us from them, which is a staple of their responsibility under our Constitution. Let this law finally be a wake up call that sitting back and burying your head in the sand will not make illegal immigration go away.

Funny how these lefty dimmies want us to be like every other country out there but they don't believe we should enforce our immigration laws as thoroughly as other countries do.

Do some research on how tough it is to move to another country.

But the fact is, Bush decided this would not happen. There was zero penalty wrung from businesses for employing illegal labor. There was supposed to have been an additional 10,000 Border Patrol Agents in the year after 9/11. Bush refused to permit the hiring, so there were 500...at a time when Border Patrol had only 9,000 or so Agents altogether.

Now the American citizens in Arizona are desperate. They are terrified, and with good reason. If they were residents of an obscure nation in Africa or Eastern Europe, we would fly the Marines in and restore order. But they live here, in the US...so no help is going to be coming.

What is the local cop on the beat there supposed to do? Run away? Would you have? Is it really wrong, immoral, unconstitutional or illegal for Arizonans to look to local law enforcement in a last ditch effort to stave off total criminal anarchy? How could that possibly be?

Shouldn't we really be discussing how to help them, not how to punish them for wanting to maintain some semblance of law and order?

It is ILLEGAL to be in this country with out permission. That is federal law. A State can and does have the authority to ENFORCE that law. There is no interference occurring except that the Federal Government is threatening to interfere in a State's right to govern and exercise their own laws with in the borders of their own State.

nah, gunny, they aren't. they will try it in federal court and will be rejected. the law will be inactive by the end of the week. those who try to enforce it after that happens will be arrested, fined, and go to jail. if they commit an assault or resist an arrest while carrying a firearm will never be allowed to work in law enforcement again.
