There should be more restrictions on what poor people can buy with food stamps.

Did anyone suggest the liquor stores and strip clubs be shut down for violating the law?

EBT is cash assistance from the state government. You can't use an EBT to buy alcohol. ... If a store is allowing EBT purchases of prohibited items, the owner could be fined and face losing their ability to sell alcohol or lottery tickets.
Don't know. Not the point. The point is the cards are being used for things other than that for which they were intended. Should we really need to police the recipients? It is a gift that is being taken advantage of.

The whole start of your post described the poor making use of resources readily available in middle class neighborhoods, but usually lacking or even non-existant where they live.

So the rest of your post was built on a faulty foundation.
Give it up- I see your MO is the overly used failed tactic of “You said X but I read Y into it” stupidity. You’re currently doing it with another poster so obviously that’s what you do. I’m not interested in wasting time/ readers’ screen space. No response needed.

by in large junk food is cheaper than healthy food.
The healthier the food, the shorter the shelf life. I remember when the COVID pandemic required people to isolate for 14 days, I realized relying on fresh fruits and vegetables meant I couldn't stock 14 days of food.

It can be frustrating, sometimes you just wish you could teach people how to manage there money or do there shopping or raise there kids.........Not many of us are interested in unsolicited advice when its aimed at our self's.
The correct word is "their" unless you have a destination in mind.

WTF is "self's"?

Actually that;s who we should police. The people illegally accepting EBT payments. They apparently let it be known they're in the EBT fraud business.

The best analogy I can think of is arresting drug dealers.

I caught you basing your "solution" on the poor using the resources you are used to being readily available in your middle class neighborhood..

Your answer was: Let them eat cake.

The democrats are letting the drug dealers out of jail, so that won't work...

So, do we need to police A, B, C, D, and E, instead of policing the recipient X? The one responsible for the card? How about we only police one of those...

If I'm going to be buying dinner for the poor I think I should have a say in what's acceptable to buy and what's not. I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to buy steak or anything nice, but I do think they shouldn't be able to buy a bunch of chips, soda and candy. There's an obesity epidemic in the country, particularly among the poor, and I don't want my money to make it worse. With my taxed income I want people to be buying healthy foods that help facilitate healthy lifestyles. If people are really in such rough shape that they need that kind of help they should be more than happy to just buy the things they actually need with it.
Lower your taxation foot print. It's crucial.

Cake would be more nutritious than $ bills to put in someone's panties...

Oh, but they do. Our local news sued for the data and had a pile, and I mean a pile of papers stacked on a desk showing the numbers (not names) of cards used at liquor stores and strip clubs.
I don't lie. You are wrong...

And here what RI had to do about it:
Republican-sponsored bills at the State House, a proposed ban on the use of EBT cards at liquor stores, casinos and strip clubs won House approval Thursday on a 66-to-1 vote.

It appears you are the liar...

Listen, you shit for brains! You and the vast majority of people posting on this massage board have no clue as the differences between TANF, SNAP, WIC, and EBT.

EBT is a money system used by WIC, TANF and WIC to distribute money to recipients.

You are a liar, mainly out of sheer ignorance.

If 1,000 EBT users are making illegal transactions at liquor store X, then we arrest X. It's just like shutting down the pawn broker who buys hot items cuts crime much more than arresting the individual thieves.

MG- you couldn’t catch a fish so give it up. I told you no response from you was needed. Did you think I was joking? I enjoy most jokes but made it a clear statement. I always give people more than one chance to show they’re interested in exchanging ideas. We all have bad days. You have used up your 10, and I’ve been generous.

Side note demonstrating your fixated mindset is not flexible enough to see basic truths: you’re blinded by what you want to see. I’ve taken multiple personality tests and the like online some try to trick you while others pretty basic… my point being generosity is one of my main traits so it’s funny how you have pigeonholed me to be somebody “else” and you’re wrong. Why would I want to continue to engage?

You lie and are ignorant. Really ignorant. So glad our states are not. Here is your run down on fraud on EBT, TANF and others:

Legislators to welfare recipients: If you want to buy alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, tattoos or adult movies, that’s your business. But if you pay for them with a debit card funded by taxpayers, that’s our business — and we’re cutting you off.

Odd you don't get fraud, considering...

Why not arrest the person to whom the card was issued, for fraud.

Does the man who stole a necklace and pawns it any less responsible than the broker who loaned him money for the necklace? Does the thief have ANY responsibility at all in your mind?

I shot down your "solution", and now you're pitching a bitch that I didn't take it seriously. You saying the poor only have to walk to the local library to access the internet shows you're clueless.

The legislators need to be telling the businesses that if they are accepting EBT payments they are the one's breaking the law. And putting them out of business would solve the problem much faster than trying to police the individual EBT recipients.

That's why we go after the drug traffickers and drug dealers.
