Which is a good thing from an intellectual standpoint. Individual memories are always myopic and prone to be biased by emotion, which are passed on to immediate progeny.

Just as WW1 can now be discussed rationally, it will take another generation to do the same regarding WW2. History always disproves analyses which rely on "good vs. evil" dichotomies.

I was born in 1943. Growing up most of the men I worked with and were around were vets of WW2. Two of them had helped liberate different concentration camps. There was absolutely no way you would ever have been able to convince them that they were not fighting against evil. Eisenhower was right. He ordered the filming of the concentration camps because he said, "There will be those that will deny this in the coming years". Nazi Germany was evil. The Soviet Union was evil. Russia, today, is evil in what they are doing in Ukraine. We must call out evil wherever it exists, and fight it with words and examples when it is within it's own nation, and with military when it moves outside it's nation.

In 1939, German weapons were pretty much normal. Bolt action rifles, small caliber A/T guns, the Me-109 which was very comparable to the Spitfire and Dewoitine D-520. Their standard tank was the Panzer II with a 20mm main gun. Probably the only world class weapon they fielded was the MG-34 machine gun.
