On a hill
Several times we almost watched this, but for whatever reason didn't.
We should have.
Well acted, especially by the then newcomer - Bryce Dallas Howard.
Well written, well directed.
A little bit of a slow burn at times, but not too bad.
And you will recognize a laundry list of top actors. Who were not yet top actors when this movie was made.

I remember that one vaguely. Watched it with a couple friends.

Right around the same time as "10,000 Maniacs".

Kind of a horror, ain't it?

I saw it at the theater. Didn’t care for it much. Was it making a statement? That the elite always lie to control the people and what the people believe is a fallacy promoted by the elite?

Like a song, a movies "message" can mean different things to different people.
My take - is the "elders" are like the media. Controlling the population by lies and fear mongering.

Spoiler alert? Is it the one where most of the villagers think they live in the18th century when it's really a modern experiment? A cruel cult if you think about it.
