The USA Now has just 25 days of diesel supply

Is it still 25 days?

Because it was 25 days 4 days ago:

So the supply isn't being depleted apparently. Keep us posted though. Thanksgiving traffic should be a lot easier with no diesels on the road.

Shouldn't be this way.

Around here firewood is selling at premium prices and I've heard wood stoves are selling like hotcakes
What it shouldn't be and what it is are 2 different things.

Too bad there's hundreds of tons of oak lining the roads here around 4 feet high. Somebody where it's cold could use that wood. 99% of it is Water Oak.

The government will just pick it up and grind it and sell it for mulch/fill.

Good wood. We cut at my mom's, oak, walnut and hickory. Try to steer clear off the walnut she sells them to buyers but if they fall oh well

Walnut would be good for building things. We don't have those here. Some Hickory, but not much.

FYI - Every item on every shelf in every store is delivered there by DIESEL FUEL.

Gasoline is delivered to the gas stations by DIESEL FUEL.

Chemicals are delivered to the water treatment plants by DIESEL FUEL.

More on this upcoming problem:

"Major Fuel Supplier On "Code Red" As Diesel Crisis Hits Southeast Oct. 26, 2022 "Mansfield is also moving the Southeast to Code Red....The latest EIA data shows there are ONLY 25 DAYS of diesel supply, the lowest since 2008; and while inventories are record low..

"The crisis has sent supplies of the industrial fuel that power the economy, from trucks to vans to generators to freight trains to tractors, to the lowest level EVER for this time of year.

(in the comments) "No diesel ?? ...
  • No trains
  • No long-haul trucking (no FedEx or UPS)
  • Most construction comes to a hault
  • No fire trucks and many other emergency vehicles
  • Utility maintenance / repair (those big bucket trucks run on diesel)
  • Severely-reduced farming (corn & beans still being harvested in most of the Mid-West, late or no spring planting)
  • If shortage continues for months, on-site supplies for emergency generators will be depleted should there be any extended power outages.
"Then there are the cascade effects:
  • Empty grocery stores, but gasoline-powered trucking may help alleviate.
  • Lowe's / Home Depot run out of basically everything.
  • Virtually every retailer will have to close
  • Gas stations close as shipments are via diesel tankers.
  • Panic buying, gross inflation / price markups due to impending shortages
  • Big farming operations & producers forced to slaughter / reduce herd sizes, not enough feed, can't operate tractors & harvesting machinery. Small farmers more adaptable, will survive longer, but still need gasoline (which can't be delivered). Serious food shortages begin in 60 days.
  • After 30-days, complete social breakdown driven largely by lack of food, urban areas hit the hardest, low-tech subsistence farming will survive. The Amish will barely notice anything is wrong.
