Zone1 The Ten Commandments don't apply to us.

A meteor strike would certainly do it, either land or water. Water would cause floods, land would be something like Sodom and Gomorrah.
It is interesting to note that, according to the Bible, the next time the world will be destroyed is by fire, something that will even set the atmosphere on fire, only possible if by another meteor or asteroid strike which would make the whole earth uninhabitable in just one day.

"But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. The earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)

"That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat." (2 Peter 3:12)

I believe it was a natural phenomenon. Knowing that the Hebrew bible tells us that God's nature is perfect and unchanging; that He exists outside of time and therefore knows the beginning and the end; that he saw His creation as very good--we return to what the original author was conveying to his original audience. It is natural for humans, upon the death of those close to them, to wish community relationships had been better, to come face-to-face with what they should have done better.

Again, this next are the thoughts of a Jewish rabbi or scholar who pointed out that Genesis tells us words have power. It seems before the flood, in everyday lives, people had been quarrelsome gossips, possibly bearing false witness against their neighbors. He notes that throughout the story, Noah doesn't speak. Some hold this against Noah, pointing out that when God told Abraham he was going to destroy the city, Abraham argued this fate with God. Noah did not argue with God this was too harsh a punishment. The different perspective is that a person would have stood out in a community where if he couldn't find something good to say about someone, he kept quiet. I believe the author was pointing out that unrest and bad things come from words, and the lesson is that everyone should watch carefully what they say, which Noah did, pre-flood. He was known as a righteous man.

The story continues, and the first words we hear from Noah is when he curses one of his grandsons. This caused a rift in the family, and so it all starts again, family turning against family, community against community.

I love the story of Noah's Ark.

Its the most plausible explanation for what people on every continent recorded. I showed you that the story does indeed describe an impact on the ocean, "the fountains of the deep opened up" was their way of describing what they could not comprehend, water from the sea rising up into and beyond the stratosphere which would have made it visible from Israel.

 
Really? I think the founding fathers were pretty clear, the government leadership is not to pick and choose on religious matters put out by government sources to the public. I think they were afraid somebody would force religious doctrine, on people that could not resist, either not having the means or possibly the maturity. Personally, I think churches, pastors, Grand Druids, Priests, Rabbis, Scientology Executives, Whitch Doctors, Swamis, Gurus, native holy men and medicine men, as well as those strange guys on the corners with their little signs and predictions of the end, are far better suited to practicing, proselytizing, converting, recruiting for their religious beliefs. Heck, we even have nut balls that think Trump is and incarnation of a deity. What if the next elected leader is some kind of lying, mind control snake, like Jim Jones, ready to lead the masses to drink the Kool-Aid? No. Founding fathers got it right. The government authorities have no place in promoting religion, though it is totally OK for them to practice it, in their private life.

I say this with clear conscious understanding, having been raised the church, (born again) and a student of history and our constitution, so recognize benefit, but also understand the reason to no let government authority impose selection of religion or religious texts to be mandatorily displayed or promoted.

was the creation of a "State Religion", such as England's.

If Your Belief were True,.... Then there would not exist, any reference, to Our Creator, in many Historical, & Federal Documents, nor publicly exhibited on Federal Buildings/Monuments.

Again, it was their being against a "State Religion", ...... Not being against any belief in "GOD".

Which has nothing to do with the Ten Commandments. Every single religion on earth recognizes a single or multiple deities, as being or connected to the creator. Recognition of a creator is not endemic solely to Judaism or any single Abrahamic monotheistic religion, past or present.
That is One Piece of the Full Picture, that the Puzzle displays.

Having a set of Automobile Keys alone, will not get You to Walmart,.... There are many factors that are involved, that will eventually get You there.
 
As sound advice, the 10 Commandments are worthy. As a religion, we are not under Mosaic Law. In fact if you believe you are under 10 Mosaic laws, then you are required to keep all 600+ of the rest of the Law. If you believe they are a requirement that you are obligated to follow, and you break one, you have broken all 600 Jewish Laws. They were not designed for the Gentiles.

We are warned not to add to or take away from God's word. To make the 10 commandments universal, that is exactly what we have done. Had we not done that, we would know exactly who they were meant for.

It does not apply as a law to anyone who was not in bondage in Egypt. And > all of the Law involves works:

Galatians 3:10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.

We are under a better covenant of grace through faith in Christ.

Having said that, if our children were taught, not to kill, we wouldn't have such a violent generation out in the streets shooting each other. They would respect their parents enough not to disobey. They wouldn't walk inside of stores and help themselves.

The 10 commandments are good words to live by, now laws we are obligated to keep...

The Ten Commandments are moral law, and according to Moses, were written in stone by the finger of God. Jesus is the Word of God, and he commanded, "If you love me, keep my Commandments." This was noted several times, and the rich young man said he had been keeping all of them. Also, Matthew, Chapter 19 has Jesus stating the Commandments we are to keep.

The other 613 laws were civil and ceremonial laws to be followed by the Israelites, as a people set apart.

And,.... If One studied those "613 Laws",.... They would find that many could not be kept, by Men, or Women, or Children.

And many were forbidden to be practiced by any outside of the Priesthood.

So, the so called "613 Laws" do not "universally apply" to All Yisraelites, but,.... The Ten Commandments Covenant applies to all of Mankind.

Hobelim your opinion is not a factoid. It is not the most plausible opinion. Floods are common trope among ancient myths, all localized to that individual region only.

Jesus had 2 commandments. Love our Father and love each other. If you do that, you have kept the Law. And yet the greatest commandments Christ gave us are not included in the Laws of Moses.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
