A ten-year-old boy walked into a computer store in Recife, Brazil

With all the money we spend on education yes. the US spends on average , 20,000 per student. if thats a class of 20 kids, then 400,000 $ per year for that class. On average.

As it is, most kids in public school are supplied with laptops or pads.... but if they are not then the good question to ask is, where is all that money going??
Just simply asking for more doesnt resolve the problem. It only assures the school system has more money to spend... but its not necessarily going to go to the kids needs.
We need to spend more on education than on the military. I don't see a trillion-dollar budget being proposed for education. I guess you don't mind the military or police asking for more. I guess them asking for more solves the problem. You guys love quoting one sentence from Dr. King only when blacks point out your behavior. Funny how you guys don't apply that to yourselves when you're broadbrushing the entire black or Hispanic populations. But here is one you guys obviously don't know:

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.”

I lost my last full-time teaching job because my salary, while not extreme, was high enough to cost my school district so much money they could hire 2 teachers fresh out of college for what they would have to pay me with 20 years' experience. Smaller rural districts just don't have the funds to hire experienced teachers. The school superintendent told me that to my face personally and I appreciated his honesty.
God bless you for being a teacher. I've baby sat my sister's kids, and I can't imagine dealing with 30 of other people's offspring. I'd guess experience would be the most important factor for being a good teacher, even more than knowing the subjects or the teaching methods. I hope some district with more funds snapped you up!

Here is a story we need to replicate here in America.

A ten-year-old boy walked into a computer store in Recife, Brazil

A ten-year-old boy walked into a computer store in Recife, Brazil, and politely asked if he could use one of the tablets on display. The salesperson agreed and handed it to him.

Instead of playing, the boy sat down and began working seriously. Store employees noticed he had taken out a notebook and pen, carefully writing down information from the screen. Curious, they asked him what he was doing.

He explained that he had a geography assignment to complete, but his family didn’t own a computer and couldn’t afford one. The tablet was his only way to study.

The moment, captured by the store’s security camera, quickly spread across social media. When the store owner learned the boy’s story, he decided to provide him with the equipment he needed to study and access the internet.

I agree. Every year I pick a couple of low income kids and start supporting their educational goals. So far, over the years, I have put 12 kids through college.

The "America First" government can spend $Billions on a war while ignoring more than 750,000 homeless living on the street. True ... some of the homeless put themselves there due to drug and alcohol abuse but not everyone who's homeless is an abuser. Many simply don't make enough money to pay the high rents. They're forced to live in their cars or in a tent.

I'm not exactly sure what the solution is but whatever it is, it will require Americans helping Americans and it will require money coupled with a lower cost of living. Forcing fuel prices up isn't helping the situation.

That war money could go to affordable housing and drug/alcohol rehab programs.

Kewl story. Schools in Brazil should get a lot more funding.

Luckily, that cannot happen in Districts like DC, New York, and Los Angeles. They get the highest funding in the United States, so their students should be fully equipped for the 21st century!
Why do you MAGATS try mess like this?

We should budget that 1.5 trillion going to the military for education.

No, I voted with my feet. I subbed, both short and long-term jobs while looking for a permanent position. I was actually hired to replace a National Guardsman who was deploying to Poland and would miss the end of the year, but after a few weeks I got hired by an Army contractor to work in recruiting, which I had done in the Navy 2 decades prior.

I probably could have found a permanent position in another county by the beginning of the next school year through the contacts I made, but the opportunity to work for the Army was too good to pass up. Two of my kids were serving at the time.

Good idea, but let's start slow. Well not too slow.

Start by shifting all the money we spend protecting other countries who have contempt for us to our own children's educations.

But make sure we hire competent people to spend it, not the people currently running our highest funded districts whose students have the worst literacy rates. Shift all the money for DEI, wokeness, and Transindoc to reading comprehension, fact-checking and editing AI-generated content, math, science, and critical thinking while consuming social media.

Whoops, that would wipe out the future of the Democratic Party.

As it should be, private individuals (groups) assisting the less fortunate. It's not the government's job though.

Yes, it is the government's job to ensure that the PEOPLE have what they need to succeed - education, health care, and infrastructure. That's the job of government.

Relying on private individuals or private enterprise will fail every single time because assistance isn't readily available to everyone who needs it. It becomes dependent on the generosity of individuals, and companies being able to profit from their generosity.

Other nations don't have "contempt" for you, unless you cause them harm, which is what the Trump regime repeatedly does.

Honour your trade deals and your alliances. Stop shitting on the nations which you do business with.

I did something similar once. A lady posted on social media that her roof had a hole in it and some raccoons or something got in and were in her attic. I called a local pest removal and paid for them to come and remove the rodents, I also stuffed $1500 in an envelope and tucked it into her door crack to help her with bills and food.

This was a total stranger..

America isn’t all bad

No one said it is, but we have a major problem, and it needs to be fixed.

Where the hell you come up with this I have no idea. How often do you see me quoting Dr martinn Luther King? or how many times do you see me speaking Ill of him??

And tell me how I broad brush an entire Hispanic population? or black? who's you guys? how many anti black threads have I started? focusing on crime or anything of the sort?

So I'm just talking about not wasting money.. and here you go again throwing RACE into it.
And seeing how for decades Europe did nothing about paying into NATO and building up their own defense, they left it up to us, and of course after World war Eleven... I mean WW2, I guess we fit right into that role.
Considering Russia and China in the world today... tell me why we should alow them to pass us by militarily?
China already has us numerically outnumbered... so if we do not stay more militarily advanced than they are, where does that leave us?

And dont think placating them would encourage good behaviour from them. The last time we tried that by allowing them into the World Trade Organization and how did they respond?

Critics argue that China has largely failed to follow WTO norms, pursuing a state-led economic model that disadvantages other nations. [1, 2, 3]
  • Forced Technology Transfers: Foreign companies operating in China have been compelled to share technology with local partners to gain market access, which is considered a violation of market principles.
  • Intellectual Property (IP) Theft: Substantial, systemic theft of intellectual property from foreign firms to boost domestic industrial capabilities.
  • Industrial Subsidies: Extensive government subsidies and favorable financing for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) make foreign competition difficult.
  • Overcapacity & Dumping: China has been accused of producing excess steel and other goods, then dumping them on the global market at below-cost prices, causing significant losses to manufacturing in other countries.
  • Limited Market Access: Despite obligations, critics argue that China maintains restrictive policies that block or hinder foreign services and goods. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Pretty simple. You don't seem to be objecting to us waiting money on the military.
