The Supreme Court considers Trump's Tariffs

China. There ya go
There will be many "routine" labor intensive products that will be made in foreign countries, not taking US jobs.

Making steel, autos, ships, weapons, computer chips and semi-conductors, as well as energy products and pharmaceuticals are essential for national security.

What difference does it make if the situation remains the same?

It seems to me that Trump not behaving like an adult is just a personal problem for you and really has nothing to do with your overall issue with the tariff situation. Even if he starts behaving like an adult (to comport with your idea of behaving like an adult), it won't change anything and you'll still blame him for the fucked up situation that every past president and administration is equally guilty of.

Trump wanted to overturn DACA. He thought he could just wave his arms and do it.

The Supreme Court told him he could do it but had to do it right.

He just couldn't be bothered.

The only way the Supremes can rule in Trump's favor is if they entirely trash the Constitution.

The power to levy taxes resides soley with Congress and Congress alone.

The Constitution is unequivocal about that.

If the Supremes rule any other way, then they are an invalid court.

If they don’t do what I feel they should then all of them are wrong and illegitimate and I’m right

This will be very interesting. Trump's wild, fluid, constantly changing, often punitive & random, impossible-for-businesses-to-plan-for tariffs -- which have played such a significant role in ruining longstanding global relationships -- are very important to him. He is just assuming that he can take the power to issue tariffs from Congress, and he is fully expecting "his" Supreme Court to let him.

This is a big deal. Will the Supreme Court fold for him? And if not, how does he react?

Roberts already said it's a tax on American citizens. Reminds me when the penalty for not having health insurance went before the SCOTUS when they declared that as a tax on American citizens. Stock market went up today on Roberts words.

SCOTUS will end up saying he did not have legal authority to impose tariffs. Maybe, lol.

He negotiated the end of 8 wars in 8 months.

How many major trade deals has he inked due to his use of tariffs?

You clowns would have us continue to be screwed on trade deals by every country on Earth. Mainly because you hate America.
We were all better off without the tariffs and with the 8 fake wars.

Your last paragraph is true… but we have gutted the infrastructure to do that and building it back up is far from easy

True. But "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".

This not an emergency since dems can reopen the government tomorrow
So if it’s not an emergency there is no authorization

And we’re talking about tariffs stupid

Well it took 100 years to build it and 40 years to dismantle it.

Gonna be a long walk

You are comparing apples to oranges

The SC has not denied trump the authority to raise tariffs

They’re considering it now stupid. Can you read?

My God

Nope. Not true. Tariffs and shipping add to foreign made cars. The average price for all new cars is $49,000, so adding $12,000 for tariffs makes foreign cars much more expensive.

Although President Donald Trump recently announced measures that would soften the blow of tariffs on the auto industry, current tariffs of 25% on imported vehicles into the U.S. will continue. This will likely lead to inflated prices for buyers, as additional costs get tacked on to imported vehicles, which are typically much cheaper than those made in the U.S.

Yeah...you're making my point for me. US vehicles should be tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than stuff made in Europe, Mexico or East Asia. Instead, they (for the most part) remain much more expensive. Why? The US automakers have raised their price as well.

Smart auditing, planning, and tough but organized and respectful negotiation.

As opposed to juvenile chaos.
China has been bending us over for a long time. I dont think they care about our negotiations.

Out of curiosity, are you okay with the US not even trying to participate in trade? Being a patsy 24/7. You can argue results, but you can't say we haven't had our asses handed to us for decades.

When was the last time we had smart negotiations with anyone before Trump? Even if the left thinks Trump is ineffective, they can't possibly believe we have done a good job on global trade?

Saying nice things about Trump doesn't fix anything.
Thank goodness someone is trying. We haven't even been TRYING to fix anything before Trump got elected. Both parties just bent over for a perpetual kicking.

Easy answer: It's a great idea to regularly audit and optimize every last trade deal. That's a great strategy.

The question is how you do it. The way you DON'T do it is by unilaterally tossing out huge, ridiculous tariffs, insulting and threatening our trading parters, making American businesses unable to do ANY long term planning, constantly changing the numbers, and levying punitive tariffs when someone hurts your feelings.

I would think that any intelligent adult would understand that.
In other words, it can't be done so don't bother. We don't want to sound mean or criticize people who are trying to screw us over, so we should just bend over and kick our own ass. Eventually, someone negotiating for the US needs to have some balls.
