President Donald Trump on Tuesday told CNBC that he will gratefully ārememberā U.S. companies that do not seek refunds for the tariffs he unilaterally imposed, which the Supreme Court later ruled were illegal.Trumpās comment on āSquawk Boxā came a day after U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened a portal for importers to seek more than $160 billion in potential refunds for the so-called IEEPA tariffs.

Trump said he was "not happy with the Supreme Court" for ruling IEEPA tariffs were illegal, and for not allowing the U.S. to keep tariffs already collected.

A unique ability to read between the lines isn't required to understand the implication of the comment. Companies that don't apply for a tariff refund (the SC's decision making it clear trump did not understand his signature economic policy is illegal) will be rewarded. Tariff refunds which are due to them because the money they paid resulted from an illegal abuse of power.
Anyone familiar with The Godfather remembers the favor Don Corleone called in from the mortician when his services were needed to prepare Sonny's bullet riddled body for the funeral. A favor he told the mortician was owed to The Don. One might call this quid pro quo. You rub my back.............
Saying it's inappropriate for the prez to publicly, implicitly offer favorable treatment for not further embarrassing him with respect to tariff refunds is not a word that rises to the occasion. It's the behavior of a mobster.
