Think better…
If the last 20 years taught us anything, it's that monstrous outcomes are inevitable when war propaganda cannot be questioned or challenged, and when neocons are permitted to lead foreign policy debates with no dissent. Smear away. It's everyone's obligation not to allow that. - Glenn Greenwald
It’s always a good idea to “Think better…”
Glenn Greenwald is absolutely correct about the monstrous outcomes of “democratic” war propaganda and neo-con foreign policy. But Putin has his own authoritarian and reactionary nationalist war propaganda, and most of the Russian people too are now tragically in thrall to it.
Greenwald has gone quite mad supporting Putin and even Trump, whose movement he has bizarrely described as “socialist.”
I’m afraid that while there is truth in your OP, it also does not “think” either deeply or well. There is much too much to cover everything in it, let alone in all your and other’s comments.
Zelensky — of course — is really not the main issue. He is an actor, and a good one. He is now more popular politically than when he was elected. He is not just a puppet. He actually wants to be the tail that wags the U.S. dog. He (and his own oligarchic allies) defeated the well-connected oligarch and ex-President — and earlier Western favorite — Poroshenko. The pressures on him within Ukraine from the right were always real and they made carrying out the Minsk Accords difficult to impossible. He has to tread carefully. He could be killed by Putin, or assassinated by the right if he settles too easily. You ignore his own agency and the agency of the Ukrainians themselves, and especially of their now powerful nationalism. It has never been only about the U.S. or CIA, crucial as they and Western banks and NGOs have been. And of course it has never been all up to Putin either, who miscalculated almost everything.
A good example of not “thinking better” is seen in the wrong and arrogant prediction of the OP: “Ukraine is going to lose the war, and Zelenskyy knows it. He knows the Ukrainian Armed Forces are no match for the Russian army. It is like a Giant swatting a fly. Ukraine is the fly.” Ukraine is not a fly. With Western help Ukraine’s army and territorial guards are exposing Putin’s “Potemkin Village” regime of gangsters and oligarchs.
Whatever the results of this horrible war, thanks to the stupidity of dictator Putin’s invasion and the reactionary imperial nationalism he and many Russians are obsessed with, the aggressive and imperialist U.S. “security state” will probably emerge much stronger than before.
