Republicans get on tv and whine about how Obamacare has raised people's healthcare costs..yada..yada..yada..here's a big reason they really want it gone...
Obamacare repeal would bring a huge tax cut for the rich, research shows
In 2006, I had a private insurance policy that covered everything I needed, for $67/month.
In 2010, to today, the cheapest policy I can find is over $300 a month.
By every possible measure, insurance premiums and the added costs of deductions have increased dramatically faster than they ever did before the ACA.
That is why we support eliminating the ACA.
You really think your policy will go back to $67/month once the SCOTUS strikes down the ACA??..you really that naive.
The free-market works every single time that it is tried.
I'll give you an example. Lasik Eye surgery.
In the late 1990s, the cost of a LASIK eye surgery, was over $2,100 per eye. The price fell down to $1,600 per eye, and over the last decade, is around $1,700 per eye.
The difference between LASIK and other hospital surgeries, is the market incentives, and the government control.
As with any socialized system, there is no incentive to reduce costs, because if the government finds out you found a way to do knee surgery for $2,000 instead of $20,000, the government will cut Medicare payments.
So there is no profit to finding less expensive ways of achieving the same outcome.
With LASIK, if they find a cheaper way to do the eye surgery, the result is a lower price that increases customers which results in more profit. Thus, the entire industry under a free-market capitalist system, has a direct incentive to find ways to do the same thing for a lower price.
So back to your point.....
Yes, absolutely I know for a fact that if we deregulate the industry, that prices will fall.
If another insurance company, under deregulation, is able to put together a policy that allows them to reduce premiums by half.... they know, that people like me will switch my insurance to them.
Which will force all insurance companies to compete on price, and reduce cost.
We already know this by the way.
What happened after the deregulation of the airlines?
Prices fell dramatically, and more people could afford to fly.
