Well, I don't know if it torpedoed any Trump agenda but proxy voting is illegal, against the Constitution. Back in 2017, John McCain with brain cancer flew across the country just so he could vote in the Senate.

Frankly, I don't see any big problem here and if a mother has a baby, I don't have a problem with her staying home and voting by proxy for the week, but they are talking about TWELVE weeks. Maybe you shouldn't be having kids if it keeps you from doing your job. Or maybe bring them to Washington.

I could live with a week to allow her time to recover and set up some postnatal care, but the problem here I think is that if you start giving proxy voting to some people, then others will demand it. Soon, no one will be showing up in Congress.

Well, from what I understand, it really only cost congress an added day or two as I'm told Congress never does anything on Fridays anyway, they use that day to fly home. And Congress never does anything on the weekend (while the rest of us work Saturday's and Sundays) even though there is nothing in the Constitution preventing them from doing so.

So, everything is on hold now until next Monday, meanwhile, the House tackles the big problems like their getting a quarter of a year off (no doubt paid) so they can sit at home nursing a baby.
