Works fine today.
We are the only nation that still has that. Colombia. , Chile , Argentina , Finland and France had the electoral college but abandoned it for direct elections because it was a lot more fair.
Sorry Stann, but the use of the word fair here is pretty undefined.
I get that you think you know what it means....to you. But not to everyone else.
This just isn't a good argument.
South American Countries are a mess and not a good example.
Finland has less population than the state I live in.
And France still can't find itself.
We have the technology in place now it would be an easy switch.
Yep and massive opportunities for fraud. And the principle isn't a good one anyway so even if you could guarantee an accurate election, direct election is still inferior to the electoral system for reasons I've already elucidated and which you chose not to address.
Not in a thousand years.
The electoral college actually detracts from a Republic.
Stann, I am trying to stay away from using worlds like stupid.
But this really is a stupid statement.
Republic is the framework of our government ,
It is the basis for our federal government.
Democracy is at the state level.
Another fail.
democracy is the ideal it is based upon
At the state level.
The states formed the federal government. You seem to forget that.
They can always cancel it if they like. Not the other way around.
