China likes to diversify their imports and Russia would love to be the only oil suport for China, thus cementing just who is in control.

Add to that, that China has already invested a trillion dollars in Iranian infrastructure with the agreement that they get a super sweetheart deal on oil in exchange So if they were to buy oil from Russia now, they would be out all that money and right back to paying full market price again.

I believe Iran would like to bottle-up the sea lanes in the region. But we now have three carrier groups in the region.

I wonder if Iranian leadership is quite stupid enough to try anything when they can’t control their own airspace and couldn’t possibly attack our naval forces?

Although they may try to put on a show to save face, for a hot minute, the question becomes is the risk worth the effort. I doubt it.
