I totally believe in the chronological events set out in Genesis. What surprises me the most is the accuracy as laid out. The author or authors must have had some help. At the time, most people believed the earth was flat.

The 20th Century book, HUMAN DESTINY by Le Compt Du Noy is the best summary of the matter. It explores the facts regarding "evolution" with simple clarity & proves that creating Earth and life thereon was a deliberate process enhanced by deliberate changes that moved things along; And, that the Creations of the Families of Earth have been an essential part of the Intent of the creation. Adam, Noah, Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Yacob & his often brats are part of (to us) a long term Creation/Evolution where the ultimate goal is a universe filled with happy, productive, loving, beautiful, people who are like the Creator. And who knows what comes after that?

As child, it was family, neighbors, TV. I wasn't aware of religion, except I used to go to a Methodist Sunday School to learn about "Geesus". I didn't read the Bible until my late teens and early 20's. I never went to Church until my 20's, and even then, it was more of an experiment to see what it was about. I found that religion is, very often, a collection wrong ideas.
So though there is considerable value in the Bible, it has to be searched for & discovered. It is a struggle. I spent a lot of my life not knowing what a man is. One day, I discovered that there are 2 words for "man" in Greek, anthropos, meaning man faced (look like man) and Anner meaning a real Man. And, even Chinese nanner is word for real Man. Turns out Anner was a faithful friend of Abraham who helped much to put down the robber kings who kidnapped Lot.
And thus a real Man is a male who loves & lives the Weightier Matters of the Law] Truth, Mercy & Faith.
