The destruction of social security is underway.

How does a reduction in force necessarily and invariably correlate to degradation in services? What are you basing this on
There is no plan in place to continue the same level of service before gutting this workforce by 50%, it is not going to increase 'efficiency" without serious growing pains, and that is with a plan in place. There has been been no time, to say nothing of the expertise, to develop any of these plans yet.

They're winging it. Expect a correlation in results to those who make decisions this way.

Where are you getting a 50 percent reduction?

The plan is simple. The remaining workforce will be told “get the work done or update your resume”. Just like in private enterprise.

Lol.

If only such a simple explanation actually worked. No one knows how this clusterfuck ends, but it's all downhill for now.

Sounds like very big increase in our Social Security payments
will be coming our way. Shrinking staffing by 50%, should free up a lot of money to redirect straight to our monthly checks (direct depoists).
The remarkable stupidity of Trump voters.

They whined about egg prices and ended up losing access to the services they need.

It works well in private enterprise, there is no valid reason for it not to work in governmental service.

Shrinking staffing by 50% will deprive many of the services they both need and deserve.

I know a lotta you trump guys are retired and on SS. What if the next time you need to speak to someone about a problem with your check the wait time is 20 hours?

How about you folks nearing retirement? SS doesn't just start automatically, you know. Somebody's gotta set it all up. What if that somebody doesn't exist anymore?

This is gonna hurt or kill people.

It's all computerized now

Crepitus is such a drama queen

Unfortunately this is the day and age of computerization. While it is still possible to start your social security benefits by phone increasingly, staff decrease or not, it's shifting over to the internet.

Using a cell phone to scan your face for the original identity at the same time you're opening an account on the computer is the way it is done now.

Having said that there are still a lot of people retiring today who are computer illiterate and will need help.

The workforce reduction, according to a second person who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, could be as high as 50%.

COULD BE according to an anonymous person. So, the 50% number is just speculation...

Isn't it possible that these agencies are just way overstaffed? Has anyone thought about that? It IS possible that the 60,000 employees are just way too many.

I have a feeling I know what's going to happen though, once the number is cut, I can see the disgruntled leaders of the administration purposely not staffing certain areas and moving people to other unnecessary areas in order to intentionally cause hardship, where if they managed their people right, it wouldn't be that way.

It will also be purposeful sabotage taking place by those who remain probably pissed off that they have to do actual work. None of this is going to happen without pain.

Social Security Administration could cut up to 50% of its workforce

Social Security has a larger concern. How about the fund’s ability to pay benefits? Right now, we are looking at the fund payubg only 83 percent of an individual’s benefit beyond 2035 which has nothing to do with the size of the SS workforce.
