Texas House Bill To Make It Legal For Drivers To Mow Down Protesters Blocking Their Path

Won't pass
I agree it won't pass... However I have no problems with the bill. Stupid should never be rewarded.
I don't. I think it has a chance. Obviously a cop can drive to safety, even if it means mowing down a protestor or two, so why shouldn't any citizen be given the same legal ability to stay safe?

If there's a crowd around your vehicle kicking it, climbing on it, pounding on it and actually break one of your windows, are you going to just sit there and let them possibly KILL YOU? You have to be joking. I'm mowing some people down, period. I'm driving to safety. I would not just sit there. Legal or not, I'm otta there.
I want to take the time to make it perfectly clear... I don't mind that people protesting... I don't mind that at all. Go you guys.

However... If you actively try to put yourself in danger by literally blocking a highway... *shrugs* I don't think you should procreate anyway. It's been a joke for decades that people should go play in the street because it's a known danger. It's one of the most base ways of saying you are stupid, or I wish you would go away.

I believe in the right to end your own life if you want. And playing in the street is suggesting you are trying to do exactly that.

Why is it that everything the right proposes in regard to political protest involves legalizing the murder of protestors should they be inconvenienced by the protest? Of course the right seldom protests anything, so what they're trying to do is to be allowed to legally attack and intimidate the left.

The right hates democracy, and the First Amendment, unless they're using it to attack and lie about the left.
You EVER fucking hear of "TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING IS A BAD THING?" Well all these PROTESTS have been anything BUT PROTESTS, and they sure the fuck have NOTHING to do with DEMOCRACY. This is MOB RULE. They've been RIOTS, and LOOTING, and BURNING DOWN BUSINESSES, and BLOCKING OFF ROADS, and they've gotten VIOLENT and people have been beaten and even KILLED, and yes, it has gone ON and ON and ON and fucking ON..!!! So there comes a point where ENOUGH is fucking ENOUGH.

What damn part of all that are you fucking missing?

What part of THE PROTESTS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL POLICE STOP BRUTALIZING UNARMED CITIZENS?

THIS IS NOT MOB RULE. THIS IS THE PEOPLE TAKING THEIR COUNTRY BACK FROM THE DESTRUCTIVE POLICIES WHICH IGNORE THE PEOPLE.

This is has gone on for over 244 years. The protests have gone on for a few weeks.

So, the nation has been brutalizing unarmed citizens for it's entire history?

So, tell me then why you do not hate it? Sounds like something that should be hated.

You act like you hate it. You do nothing but put it down. Yet, when we comment on your obvious hate, you claim to be Patriots....

YOur words contradict each other. Your actions makes no sense.

It's about time for this bill to pass.
Hopefully it will encourage other states to do the same.

Oh, so you're in favor of being able to run over somebody? Great. I'm sure that you're a fine human being.

The point of all of this is to turn law-abiding citizens into criminals. They set up human roadblocks to impede commerce and cause chaos and hatred. They're hoping for us to back down. If any of us try to push them out of the way, they gang up and beat the shit out of us. They are trying to instill fear with a mob. The best way to combat that is make starting it up more risky. Maybe even deadly. Run them over whenever they do that and they have a choice of either becoming more of a threat or calling the police. Most of them are paid to do this anyway....so I doubt they have the right incentive to risk their lives for a cause. The cause is horseshit, and they know it.

Why do you guys hate the Constitution so much?

We don't. But is absolutely certain that you do.

Well that's a lie. You conservitards only know and care about one line from the Constitution.

The person you run over is the victim, you dolt.
Damn you Leftist are dumb .....

This bill does not allow motorist to run over innocent pedestrians walking down the sidewalk.

It's aimed at Leftist Criminal Thugs and Domestic Terrorist who block roadways, denying EMS access and attacking motorist who try to drive through.

They are the perpetrators and get what they deserve !!!

Don't be stupid. Deliberately hitting someone with your car makes you the criminal.

If someone were to ask me what the new coin of the realm is in American conservatives, I would answer the question simply and easily. It's pure unadulterated NONSENSE!

To say that it was ignorance would be too kind because that implies that a little education could overcome it. Even saying that it was stupidity wouldn't cut it because, in my experience, stupidity is usually an individual phenomenon as opposed to a group phenomenon. So, in any group of average people, usually only a relatively small percentage of people will believe something that is demonstrably untrue. However, today's conservative America is simply awash (and frankly, saturated, as well) in willful collective nonsense. And it's so damn pronounced as to defy any simple explanation. I mean, it's hard enough to believe that any rational person could believe that a law could be passed to legalize assaulting persons or groups of persons with a motorized vehicle which today can easily weigh over 2 tons. However, what makes this story so laughingly preposterous is that a legislator could actually be so daft as to introduce in any legislative chamber seemingly without any concern of being laughed out of office if not voted out of office in the next election and without any fear that this proposed action would follow him for the rest of his life like a scarlet letter of shame.

However, in the age of the QAnon conspiracy theory which seems to have caught Beatlemania for buttheads everywhere, should we be surprised?

Don't be stupid.

These domestic terrorist are criminals.

If they attack the motorist's vehicle, it's self defense.

If they accidentally get run over for trying to block traffic, it's their fault and do not deserve shit ....

That is the point of this bill.

Bullshit. Police brutality is a slogan not a real issue. What exactly constitutes police brutality and why are these retards marching on the highways instead of at their state capitol buildings? Because they are retards who have no clear message or issue.

You post is just reeks of ignorance and stupidity. You call the protestors "retards" yet claim, despite all reasonable evidence to the contrary, that police butality isn't a real issue.

I guess the cities are just glad handing millions of dollars over to anyone who makes an excessive use of force claims for the fun of it. Taxpayers shelled out $300 million to settle police brutality claims last year alone:

American police shot and killed over 1000 Americans last year. #1 in the free world. #2 - French police shot and killed 26 people last year. Germany was #3 with 18. In total, over 1500 people died in police custody or as a result of being shot by the police.

Here's an article from 2015 that says that police forces in the 10 largest cities paid out $248 million dollars to settle claims of police misconduct in 2014. This figure was up 48% just from 2010.

And another that says Chicago paid out over $113 million just last year:

Again, unless you can specify what constitutes police brutality it is just a slogan. The courts, local governments and the DoJ already review police actions to determine if excessive force has been used, and almost always find the police acted with appropriate force. The term, police brutality, has no meaning unless you can specify exactly what actions constitute police brutality and that is exactly what the courts do.

The US has a much higher homicide rate than Germany or France as well as a much larger population, so our police have to deal with many more violent criminals than French or German police do, so naturally they have to use more force. The issue is not how many shootings there were, but case by case, was this shooting justified. Neither you nor the other morons rampaging through our streets is apparently capable of making such judgements. So, once again, police brutality is just a slogan chanted by stupid, ignorant people rampaging through our streets looting, burning and wantonly destroying public property while Democratic politicians cheer them on.

If you have a situation where psychos are looking to be killed it does make sense to relieve drivers of responsibility for the peoples lives who want to die

Seriously that is a stupid bill and probably will not pass even in a controlled republican states.

They usually include a clause such as "exercising due care," which will always end up in court. The only people who would even considered running over someone already has mental problems. Exercising due care by running someone over. Yeah I wonder what the time limit on that is before it becomes a matter of being annoyed and in a hurry.

If you have a permit then the permit allows them to be in the street and as long as they are in the right location as permitted. IF they are not then they have to move.

Protesters cannot block traffic in public places. IF they do the police can tell them to move.

So to run them over is overkill.

Well, the article in the OP cited a bill that was introduced in 2017. It never made it out of committee. In Texas, the legislature meets for 90 days every two years so the earliest this can be re-considered is May 2021. I'm pretty sure it will be one of the "front burner" topics is the blob wins re-election and Texas remains red (both of which would seem to be tied to one another incidentally). If the blob is voted out or if Texas flips blue, you'd see a bit more conciliatory posture from the pachyderms in Austin. A lot of the politics in that state is based on pop culture and opportunism. Its slowly sinking into the GOP majority that a state income tax is needed because the property-tax model is not supporting the infrastructure and the upper limits of taxing homeowners is being reached. Now that covid has destroyed the tax income from the tourists taxes, the state income tax is a real possibility. The lottery didn't pan out they way they thought it would. So if Biden becomes President, you may see the packies in Texas push through a state income tax and blame it on Biden.

I did not know that they only meet twice a year. Reading up on it and it appears that their are 3 other states that meet every two years. Sounds ridiculous as it must be hard to respond to changes. I guess it is more power to the Gov.

The guy who submitted this bill did so at the same time that the young woman got run over during the 2017 protests and he received a lot of hate mail on that one. He quickly condemned the media and said the bill would not hurt criminal prosecution.

The bill appears to really only protects the driver from civil liability and does not protect then from criminal liability. So relatives are limited if they want to sue and the only regress is to depend on the criminal justice system.

The author of this bill says "Does the Far Left know the difference between lawfully protesting in a street and illegally blocking a hwy!?" which was tweeted by him.. Well do you not know the difference between a street and a highway.

So he changed the bill to reflect that it did not include streets instead only refers to highways. With the limited time that they are in session this bill will probably never be a priority.
