Texas Democrats flee the state to Illinois.

1. No pay until they show up for work.

2. TX supreme court has the ball on removing them.
No need, they're already not getting paid for those positions.

Doh!!!

Texas AG Pulls the Trigger to Declare Democrat Seats ‘VACANT’

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is making good on his promise to hold state democrat lawmakers accountable for abandoning their seats, and their state.

The “out-of-state rebellion”, as he coined it, will now come with a potentially high price.

It may literally cost them their seats in the Texas legislature.

It amazes me how the party who claims to want democracy flees the state because they don't think they will like the results of democracy.
What about the Trump party that wants to redistrict after 5 years.
A census hasn't even been taken.
Why do they need to redistrict the map now?
Do they not like the results of democracy?
They see the writing on the wall, so they want to change walls.

The voters put them in charge, and one of the privileges of being in charge is redrawing the districts.
After 5 years?

No other state does that.
Especially for no other reason, than a request from their dear leader.
Democracy in action.
After the census, every 10 years.
What the democrats are doing is the farthest thing from democracy, and childish to boot.
No, what republicans are doing is the farthest thing from democracy.

Easy.....The 2022 Freedom to Vote Act. Which passed the House, but not the Senate because of the Repug filibuster.

This bill would have ended gerrymandering. How can you be this clueless, ignorant, and stupid?

Oh, I forgot.....you are a Trump voter. You pretend to be knowledgeable and a strong debater, but you are obviously neither. --

A lie by omission. The bill would have been pointless because it would not have addressed the gerrymandering already in place.

Left that little bit out, didn't you? You substitute provable points for name-calling, which only proves the weakness of your premise.

Did they do it in a year ending in 5?
/----/ Dumb question. That's not what the Constitution states.
Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution states:
The actual Enumeration (what we call the Census) shall be made
within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United
States, and within every subsequent Term of ten years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

1. Last time I checked, 5 years is within 10 years. Just because it was traditionally held on a year ending in 0 doesn't mean it can't happen sooner.
2. The first meeting of Congress was in 1789, and the first census was in 1790 BECAUSE that was within 3 years.

Well CB, now you've done it and gone used arithmetic and logic, which surely now will cause every lefty reading this thread to lose focus and drift off back into their TDS mode.

I know that.
Then every 10 years after that
"5 years is within 10 years"?
It doesn't work like that.
"and within every subsequent Term of ten years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct".

What reason would states have to redistrict congressional representation, without a census being taken?

You're changing the wording of the Constitution which states: "and within every subsequent Term of ten years.

Dictionary.com
within. preposition.
  • occurring inside (a particular period of time):
"sold out within two hours" · "33% were rearrested within two years of their release"

TERM of 10 YEARS, not within, TERM.

What other census aside from the first one, was NOT taken in a year without a ZERO?

Do you know what the word “within” means?
